m thI HATE ACURA KEYS
man, i'm so pissed because I wanted to install my remote start from my civic to my integra. My GSR only came with one key. In order to install the remote start, you need another key. So i make another key and OF COURSE, it does not work.
Acura put a chip in the damn key.. So i call up Acura and they tell me that a key would cost me $250

apparently, there is something called a transponder bypass, so that way you dont have to use another key for remote start.

Why do you need another key for the remote start system? Is it just to set it up? In that case, just make another key for the setup, but don't use it to start the car.
I don't quite understand how that works. But anyway, there are ways to get past the immobilizer.

If the car key has a chip in it, then another key that does not will only open the doors and the car will not start. ( i already tested that). Now, since the key you make does NOT have the chip, it wont run because it's obviosuly not reading a chip.
So in order to start the car PERIOD, you need the ignition to that chip. Therefore, when you install a remote start, there has to be a chip somewhere attached to the wiring to tell the ecu "hey buddy, start the car". Ya know?
That's the basic concept of it Or at least what i have been told.

i had the same problem, we used the orginial key with the chip to use with the remote starter and just bought a regular key to start the car with after it was running. since the key with the chip in it has to stay with the car(hidden under the dash) to get the remote start to work a regualer key will start the car manually with no problems.
Yah that's another idea, but you would never be able to open the truck or lock/unlock the glove compartment. (i think, i'm not too positive) I'm gonna see how this transponder bypass thing works when i get a chance..
Anybody used one or knows anyone that uses one?

oh yah, speaking of that. I'm going turbo soon and i'll have a OBD I ecu. So that solves my problem, right?

only 00-01 tegs had the immobilizer and its honestly not that hard to get around if you have any idea.. and if you dont have any idea, tow trucks work great..

wow thats weird, i just had a key made by honda for my teggy for $6. i had to get the code from acura so that the key could be made, which was a pain in the rear, but nothing like a $250 charge, that seems strange

OIC, i was just informed that the newer (00-01) had chipped keys and the others didnt, please correct me if i'm wrong, sorry man don't mean to steal ur thread
i got mine for free actually from the dealer, or 25 bux...not 250, i think u need to bee cool with the service advisor or something and maybe u guys can work out something under the table, i've asked for 3 sets with immobilizers and they were all given to me for free..
i have a 2000 gsr with remote start..
all you need is a blank key with your chip..you'll put it in a box and a transmitter to your remote start.
there's a wire the wraps around where you insert the key..
tada!
=P

Ok, good news. I went back to Acura to double check and they said it's $39 to make a copy of a chipped key and $250 if I don't have the key period. I was so glad. So i went ahead and got me a copy.
dont do it. the chipped key feature is a good feature to prevent theft, if you dont have a key the signal wont be sent not letting the car start. if you place the key hidden in a box etc anywhere, and they break ur ignition itll start your car like normal. remote start = cool, but stolen car = no.
