(SPOILER) My first-ever instructor just won the Indy 500
Thought this was neat enough that I had to share.
My first experience driving a car in anger at a race track was at the Bondurant school in 1996. I was the only person there doing the three day school (as opposed to the four day) so I had my own instructor the entire time.
His name was Buddy Rice, and he just won the Indy 500.
Buddy could make a stock Taurus SHO (the instructor cars) do things that to this day I don't understand. Things like drifting the car around the entire track. Buddy taught me how to heel-toe the right way. He hammered me on being smooth. He scolded me for hanging the tail out in the Mustangs.
One day some of the students, including me, ate lunch with the instructors. These guys all lived, breathed, and slept racing. They were all constantly on the hunt for a ride, most of them looking in open wheel. The Bondurant thing was a side gig so they could afford to eat.
Anyway, I just thought it was kinda neat, and he's even driving a Honda powered car. Buddy, if you happen to read this, congratulations, and thanks

It is good do see a good guy take a well deserved win. Letterman was pretty choked up during the interviews just before the finish. Congrats to the Andretti teams for takeing 2nd through 4th as well.
Thats awesome Karl!
Can't imagine the feeling of knowing that the man that just won the 500 was the person who taught me how to drive...
Buddy Rice

Heh, I thought today was just more proof that Indy hates Andretti. I hope he fields 32 cars some day and the 33rd car wins.
