Ok, here's the story:
I got a 97 Civic Coupe W/GSR motor with t3/t4 turbo setup, long manifold @ 10lbs, .60/.63 ar's 57 trim. Fluidyne radiator, slim fans, spoon thermostat etc....
When I drive for like a half hour or more the heat from the motor gets so excessive, it fries the gasket thing inside my slave cylinder and shifting finally becomes impossible. My temp gauge still stays normal for the most part, right in the middle, egt temps at a steady 90 mph is around 800C (around 1400 F).
I change my oil religously every 2000 miles seriously, and I change tranny fluid often too, about 5000 miles ago. I changed it last night just in case and still no change.
I made a heat shield last night but it doesn't help either. My last option and this would be expensive is getting a full length mani and having it and the turbo thermal coated.
Can anyone help? Give advice????

and are you sure its the slave cylinder? that must be a ton of heat. look at the firewall above your clutch pedal and make sure the master cylinder isnt leaking fluid down through the input seal.

thanks jared.
it is definitelythe slave cylinder. When I first start driving, everthing is butter, then after everything heats up, I guess the slave won't hold the pressue. I thought it might be the master cyl too, I had that problem before, but I checked it and its not leaking inside or out. I replaced the slave cylinder yesterday and it worked just fine again until I went out to the races and beat on it and the heat killed the slave again.

I don't have any pics of my setup but here is a link to a pic that is basically what my setup looks like. It's about 2/3 down the page, this pic has a red valvecover with fire graphics and **** on it.

Jared;
Thanks, my setup is exactly like the pic. I can't figure out why then the slave cyl is crapping out after a while of driving. It is the heat from something that is killing it, I figured the turbo since I've never had a problem before. But I have had the turbo on since December 03 with no problems like this till now.

boostfed, yes I did put all new fluid in there. Just out of curiosity, why would that matter?

i know that brake fluid can heat up alot after alot of hard driving and people experiance brake fading.. maybe something like this with your clutch line somehow.. im not sure..
could it possibly be from a warn out clutch or something that it is acting this way? a bearing gone bad?
i would definatly not worry about getting a new manifold your problem lays somewhere else..

ive put together several turbo setups on 92+ civics just like that and never had a problem with the slave cylinder. I think something else is causing your problem and the heat is just causing it to fail sooner. What pressure plate do you have? What flywheel? Has it ever been resurfaced? How long have you run it?
Explain "shifting becomes impossible" so, the engine bay is obviously really hot, and you cant get the shifter to go into gear while the car is running. Ok, how about if you turn the car off and try to put the car into gear (when its really hot) will it go into gear? Does the slave cylinder move all the way when this is happening? I agree with Jared I think something else is going on. If your setup has the compressor side towards the slave you should have 0 problems with heat. I've actaully had a similar problem, I just extended the slave rod about 1/8th of in inch, and it worked fine.
let us know what ya find out.

To explain further, after a while of driving shifting becomes notchy, like if you have ever had a slave cylinder start to fail on you thats what it does. It starts to not go into gear cause the clutch isn't completely disengaging. I'll have to double clutch to downshift back down to first.
Clutch is ACT XTSS, flywheel fidanza not more than 6-7000 miles old.
I don't think the slave is fully extending once it heats up. I do not know why? Looks like it is ******* up the gasket type think inside and fluid is making its way past it.

If the slave cylinder is overextending this will happen, also if the pivot arm is off angle, that will happen. Is this a "true" hydro tranny, or a cable to hydro conversion.
Just throw a washer in there under the pivot point and extend it out a little bit. It's worth a try before you start chucking hammers in your garage through walls
lol, ok maybe thats just what I do.
It's pretty hard to over-extend a hydro setup, unless you jam something really big in there.
Just play with your shaft length

I'll try adjusting the shaft length but has anyone else ever had this problem before? It has to be a heat issue, once I start the car it drives fine, once the car cools down I can drive it fine. Its just after a while
Seen this twice and neither was a head issue, the heat just made the problem worse. Once it was a flywheel that had been resurfaced too much, the second time it was a clutch disc that was too thin(a new one, that was just wrong, but only1mm off, not visible)

I don't have any problems shifting when the car is warming up though. Its only once I have been driving for a while.
My slave has been leaking, i dont think it is because of heat though. It is on a cable tranny. I used the hasport kit. I just got a rebuild kit, i think i'm gonna try adjusting the pivot arm first.
