Experience with Mugen intake and AEM CAI?
I wanted to hear some feed back from ppl who currently are running one of these intakes, or even if youve run both of them to give me thier feedback on them. im looking into purchasing the mugen airbox but not sure if it performs as well as the AEM CAI. let me hear your feedback
From others opinions, Mugen is the way to go. In term of finding actual numbers, that will be kind of difficult to get on a dyno, since it is not actually in a driving environment where the outside air is really being sucked in. Butt dynos have shown the Mugen to be more torquey, and not as quiet as the AEM, but many poeple just can't justify its high price tag.
If it helps at all, I'll be selling my AEM cai soon to upgrade to a Mugen

I'd go with the Mugen intake over the AEM CAI. But it also depends on your budget. There is a huge difference in price between the two. Figure about $600 and change for the Mugen and only about $200 and change for the AEM. Like DragII mentioned, you might want to look into the Comptech Icebox..
Totally different intakes.
$200 vs $650 = big difference.
If you want bang for the buck go with the AEM CAI or the Comptech Icebox. Then there is also the J's intake.
If you want the end all of all intakes, get the Mugen. I wish I would have in the first place after going through: stock, aem cai, j's

Bone stock ITR with Mugen intake will get benefit compare with stock intake with replacement filter? It helps for low end torque or just mainly high end horsepower? Will Mugen intake affect the stock A/F ratio?

Everything you do affects the a/f ratio. Don't be so paranoid over an intake.
The mugen intake will be A LOT better than a drop in replacement filter.
It helps everywhere IMO.

A little off topic but why does every Wal-Mart Parking lot look exactly the same? I saw that picture and was like "Holy crap there are a few more R's in the area than I thought." lol
If you have the $$$$s then mugen is the way to go...if not then the AEM isn't far away or if funds will stretch...ARC air chamber! I've driven pretty much stock ITRs with all three and given a choice with limited funds i'd stretch myself to the ARC but the Mugen intake looks sooooo much nicer.
The Mugen *sounds* far superior to the AEM - and that's all it has going for it. The whistle a part throttle sucks. My ITR had been out-of-pocket for almost 2 months and I'd forgotten it - I had been innurred. But at WOT, it does sound lovely...
Still the Mugen is hands down the best there is - price no object. If you buy one, that's it. It's better to buy one for $600ish than but 2 or 3 looking for something comprable for cheaper. It's expensive. This is an expensive hobby. It's not the *most* expensive hobby, so suck it up and go Mugen. Stock will serve you fine in the interim.

I would get the Mugen if price is not a factor. If you don't have the $$ for the Mugen I would go with a Comptech Icebox over the AEM any day. With the AEM you have a good chance of sucking up water with it.

Not too long ago, (maybe 2 months) I read about a guy with a DC5 on the EP3/DC5 board talking about his Mugen intake installation and driving impressions.. Try a search...

how good is the j's? I see its about $400 cheaper than the mugen, is the mugen really worth the extra $400?

Throttle response with the Mugen is better imho. The Mugen is also quieter - you can actually hear your engine and exhaust.
The AEM has far too much induction noise.

I did a before/after dyno of the Mugen intake. It gained 7 hp around 8k rpm with gains starting from around 4.5k rpm. It was on the same dyno and both runs were on the same day.

Was this with the Mugen intake for the DC5 / RSX? or DC2R?
