3rd gear grind - replace synchro or gear or fork?
opened up one of my trannies that i know has an occasional 3rd gear grind, most likely from downshifting at too high of speed from 4th. i expected to see the synchro badly rounded, but instead the smaller teeth on the 3rd gear were slightly worse than i think they should be and the synchro itself wasnt so bad. not quite what i expected, so i just wanted to confirm which one needs to be replaced. could it be the synchro or gear, or BOTH, or depends? also, someone else mentioned it might be the shifter fork.
ive got 5 of em... i just wanna know which ones needs to be replaced. trying to make as many "good" trannies as possible. also, i plan on putting my mugen diff in one, so i dont want to rely on using some non specific weight fluid as a band aid.

It could be both. Doesn't sound like a fork problem.
If it looks round, then it should be good but if it is all jagged then that is bad. I would replace the syncro and hub (should come together).

normally when it starts grinding thats your warning that its damaging the gear, its common practice to replace the entire gear set, both gears, synchros, slider, and hub.
