Swap out stock tach?

Swap out stock tach?
I was wondering if my stock LS tach can be swapped out for a GSR one by taking apart the gauge cluster. Would it still be accurate?
The reason I'd rather swap out only the tach is because I want to keep the rest of the cluster, mainly the odometer.
