Revalved Bilsteins and GAB Super HP
Well I've been planning on getting some Koni Yellows for some time now, but I just found out that our local Evo instructor has an online store that sells a bunch of high end car stuff. I was looking at it earlier today and found that he has revalved Bilsteins from Shocktek and GAB super HP adjustables available for my Integra, I've searched and I have found little to no info on how these compare to the Yellows. You can see here http://www.stranoparts.com that they are more expensive, the revalved Bilsteins being really really expensive and I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with them. last time I was around a Nissan forum(Shocktek originally started making full coilover systems for SE-r's with revalved Bilsteins) I heard that Shocktek had gone out of business but the owner was still servicing setups that he had sold in the past. Anyway fill me in with any info you have to share.
Strano also sells Koni and you can get them revalved if you like or Strano can have it done for you as well. The GAB damper is basically the KYB AGX shock, I am not familiar with that specific model so it may be a valving variation or something. The GABs and KYBs are not serviceable for valving, customization or repair.
Shocktek has indeed gone out of business but did a lot with Bilstein shocks including making some of them adjustable. I have never dealt with any of the Shockteck reworked stuff but it is still basically a Bilstein mono-tube with their own interpretations. It would be interesting to know if Shocktek was able to get much low speed damping into the Bilsteins which as a generality tend to be rather linear in valving with not a lot of low speed.
The off the shelf Koni Sports are adjustable for rebound with a very wide range of adjustment and stand on a strong reputation. If your needs take you beyond the off the shelf valving, then several more aggressive valvings have been well developed as well as an ala carte list of services like revalving, shortening, single or double adjustable, etc. are available.
What you do and what you want to do as well as how much you have to spend are the pivotal issues here. From there, the more functional adjustability you have the better you can tune for preferred performance.
