Civic Si Skipping and spitting back
I just bought an 89 Civic Si and before I bought it I drove it a couple of times and it drove fine. Now it skips and spits back hard. We have replaced the Ignition Coil, Dist. Cap, Rotor button and put NGK plugs into her. We have a fuel pressure gauge hooked up and it appears to be getting 32psi while idleing but when I head down the road it will spitback real hard and just about shut the car off at times. I bought new plug wires tonight and put them on and it skipped nonstop so I put the old ones back on and it only skipped once or twice all the way home. Now granted it only skips sometimes and only does it once the cars gets to running temperature. The ECU is also not throwing any codes out at us so we have no idea what is going one. This has got me and my friends totally baffled as to what could be causing this problem. Please help.
Thanks
Thanks
Oh come on. See that is not what I wanted to hear. That is another $300 dollars I have to spend here locally. And it comes with a new ignition coil which we just bought. AHHH!!! Something told me to not buy this car. I should have listened and stuck with driving my Chevy Van. Shoot. Oh well maybe I can find a nice cliff and collect on the insurance. Thanks guys.
Uh, dude...if you're even half serious about going back to a Chevy van. Leave. Right now...you have no business being here.
1st...Distributor replacement.

$185...not $300. And that's if you really need it. Or try a junkyard replacement to see if it really is the problem. See if anyone on the board has one they'll sell after a swap or something.
2nd...Isn't the fuel pressure supposed to be 35-41 at idle? If your fuel supply is getting strangled by a bad filter, weak pump etc it might be contributing to your problem.
3nd...But you know...when it come to troubleshooting, you could take it to a qualified dealer. Pay them for an hour of labor for diagnostic time($65-80 is typical)...when they disgnose the problem decide if you want to tackle it yourself or let them repair it. But at least you'll know what the problem is instead of throwing expensive parts at it until the problem is solved.
$80 or you scratching your head all weekend and getting frustrated...sounds so worth the money.

Davens I have business to be anywhere I please. As for the problem it was the Electronic Control Module that caused everyone of my little problems. Replaced it from a b16 Distributor and all is well.
Thanks for the help. No need to flame me because I like my Chevy Van. It gets my family around nicely. Have a nice day.
