My rotors are warped and now my bro's teg has warped rotors also. My friend's rotors are warped and a couple of other people I know with tegs have warped rotors at least once. What is the deal? What contributes to rotors being warped? I am sick of replacing my rotors since this has happened twice already. I don't ride my brakes or brake hard at all. Is it just an integra thing or what? I have the autozone blanks if that helps w/ultimates.

 

No problem here. I have my original front brakes on my 99 gs with 45k and they still work great.

You know why? Because I ALWAYS torque my lugs to spec!!! Do you do the same?

 

Are you using OEM pads or somethin' else?

My rotor are fine after 80K.

 

75k on a 96...original rotors...

The car doesn't warp rotors....the driver does. It's all in your driving style...apparently yours, and your bro's, and your friend's driving styles, are harmful to brakes.

 

I don't drive hard at all. I do long, soft stops. I don't do short, hard stops. I torque my lugs on correctly also. I guess it is just something I will have to deal with.

I have 47k on my rotors, and they are still fine. Maybe it has something to do with how you break in the pads/rotors after you turn them or get new ones. I have heard nothing but good things about Autozone blanks, so I don't think that's the problem.

 

I must admin, I am a rotor warper. But there as been some strangeness.
I torque by stuff and follow the Helms bible.
But my past 2 brakes jobs have been full rotor/pad b/c of rotor warpage. I don't mind really, it nice to have fresh rotors and bedding them in is kind of fun.
It seems to occur during the final life of the pads (I've used generic and Hawks) so maybe changing pads earlier would cure it.
But who knows...

In general this is true... but the car definitely can warp rotors. Over the past 2 years I've had a hell of a time keeping my rotors straight. Changed pads, drove normally, lubed slide pins.... I went thru at least 3-4 sets of rotors. Finally i had replaced everything except for the calipers. Once I installed new ones.....no more brake problems, everything works perfectly now.

So there are instances when the driver is NOT the cause of the rotor problems.

 

Hey, great read!! And that makes perfect sense too. That's what's been causing my problem, material build up and stuff.

 

Tightening the lug nuts unevenly warps rotors.
Spraying the brakes with water right after driving warps rotors.
Setting the parking brake after lots of hard braking warps rotors.

It could be lots of reasons, and all these are caused by the driver or another person.

I put on new front rotors from AutoZone over 60K miles ago and they haven't warped yet.

ahhhhhh... thats my car!! i got raybesto's racing pads on mine.. no wonder why my **** is so hard to break on sudden stops.. when i dont drive hard..

Doesn't sound like you do. Do you work on your car or does someone else do? When you say torque lugs, you are referring to a specific amount of force applied to the lug nut for instance, xxlbs/ft.

The way you said it, it sounds like you were talking about the torquing sequence. According to factory specs, the lugs should be torqued to 80 ft/lbs.

 

No, I do all the work on my car. I do not trust anybody to touch my car, even for an oil change. I torque the bolts on correctly everytime and I do it in the right sequence. I am just going to have to live with it I guess.

 

I'm hard on rotors too... I warped the stock ones really quick myself. I have had great results (only very minor warping in ~35k miles) so far with Brembo Blank rotors and Axxis Ultimate pads. If you are using stock pads / rotors I highly recommend this upgrade.

 

I think Honda/Acura rotors warp easily. On my 2k1 civic, I drove it cross country @ 2500 miles. By the time I got back, the rotors were warped. I am thinking weight of all the luggage + mountains (went thru highway 70 there & highway 80 back) + braking alot because of 18 wheelers = rotors warped. Honda replaced them for free @ 9k miles. But every honda / acura I have had, I am hard on the brakes. once I feel warpage, I know its time to replace them. Strangely the car I wasnt rough on the brakes was the 2k1 & they went out pretty quick.

 

hmm my rotors (seemed) warped?? when i brak mildly, the whole front end shakes like theres not tommorow

after reading the link on the rotor warpage theory, i find that i screwd up on the break-in process. i just drove normally after installing new pads i got from autozone. if u dont follow the right procedure u get uneven deposits and vibration under breaking.

argh. i wish i could have gotten to that site before. now i gotta deal with this sh*t. well i hope u figure out your problem as i did mine!!

 

I just got some axxis ultimates and some autozone/aimco blanks. I will put them on soon and will break them in properly. I just hope that I don't warp these rotors and have to throw out a good set of pads.

If I brake long and soft the rotors should be ok right? I rarely stop short and hard. In my 88 teg, the rotors were warped even though I never were hard on them. I don't really notice it unless I am going at least 70mph though, so I guess I will live with it if I warp my new set.

hum...i have brembo blanks and metal master from pbr.....my rotor are a bit warped out...after 25k drive...i admin...i'm a bit hard on them since i come down a big hill everyday...i'm satisfied on how the stopping power they have...but the rotors must go...i was wondering will cross drill or slottor rotor will help at all..

 

No, my bro has cross-drilled/slotted rotors and they warp just as easy.

 

mine have warped once but my 'teg has 13XXXX miles on it....had them refinished and good as new

 

I use to take my car into those "Cheerleader Car-Wash Donations Only" to watch the cheerleaders clean my truck and daily driver. And use to warp rotors like nobodies business. Later found out that if your brakes aren't allowed ample cool down time before they go splashing water on themselves and your wheels (and consequently your rotors) then the rapid cool down causes them to warp in a hurry.

I also use to go to those "Self Car Wash" places with the same results.

I stopped going to the "Self Car Wash" places and now I park a hundred feet away from the car wash and watch or go into whatever store they are in front of and shop for 10 or 15 minutes to let the brakes cool down, then go get my car washed. Since then, no more warpage.

 

i have a 94 teg and i'm a hard driver with no problems

 

Try different pads and increase your break-in period.
