I replaced my AEM CAI with a V2, hmmm...
I've got a UKDM y0
1.6VTI (B16A2) and I used to have a AEM CAI. I replaced that with a AEM V2 and it feels slower to me?
The car feels like theres less power top end, it doesn't feel as lively as it did. Surely this isn't right?
The only thing I can think of is the pipe is wider and therefore not as effecient but this thing has been tested and dynoe'd by AEM and meant to be the best CAI. I noticed that the insulater pipe on the outside is hollow and open ended so the air blows INTO the space aswell as up the intake pipe, weird? Right?
Anyone?

Read the little section on the AEM challenge and you will get some more insight on how AEM makes their power claims.

I read the article, doesn't make AEM look bad and their testing method sounds right to me.
The Dyno's show AEM V2 fairing pretty well if not in the top 2 overall... and an excellent midrange too.
You CANNOT get cams for the price of an AEM V2 in the UK. I got my V2 for £150/$250 and cams would be nearer £400$700 then you need the retainers etc etc.

Just an analogy, a lot of people move their VTEC settings with a stock cam and they feel like they got more power. Reason is because there is a big drop off in power then a big kick when the VTEC comes in. The V2 has a more level power band, while most intakes especially short rams are real peaky. So maybe it feels like there's less kick but you have better power overall.
Also note that the power that you feel is torque, not horsepower. Torque is what pushes you back in your seat.
Replacing your CAI with a V2 is a waste of money even according to the tech's at AEM.
My second theory is that maybe you were running slightly lean in the first place, now you've added more air and you're running even more lean. I don't know what your setup is or the condition of your injectors...

Hold on guys, I sold my AEM CAI for the SAME money I paid for a BRAND NEW V2. I got a good deal.
Would that still be classed as a waste or is the V2 better, I think the V2 is better overall?
And to answer about my car, its low mileage 25k so the injectors should be fine. Only got a full tanabe SMR, de-cat, 68mm TB, TB spacer and EK9 header.
Got my APEXI VAFC to fit, so hopefully that will fill in the weak spots.

Problem is Hondata is very new to the UK, no real tuners.
Dastek (unichip) which is half the price are very very good if you go to the right tuner so that will be my first choice.
The VAFC was simply to fill the gap and tune the current mods to a better level, obviously it has many limitations but its better then nothing. I also got it VERY cheap too (£100).
