wheather or not to get vtec gsr or ls
hey i am a semi noob so i need some help. i am looking to buy an integra 94-00 but cant decide on ls or gsr. basically i can get a ls for about $3000 cheaper and i am wondering if i should spend the extra money to get vtec, or get the ls and add intake, exhaust, header, cam, pulleys, clutch, flywheel, etc. and then later boost it. so basically should i start with stock gsr and slowly build or get ls tuned right now, is vtec really worth it.
cars of choice
97 gsr-$12800 cdn
97 ls special edition-$9400cdn
or save for 99 eclipse gsx $17000cdn
thx for any info u could give me, great if u could email me thoughts and opinions at stuntman_900@hotmail.com
oh ya last car was 95 celica gts how does it compare to integra performance wise
PEACE

Depends what you want to do. You can turbocharge anything, but as Im sure most will tell you, the LS is a far superior block to boost.
Personally if I owned a GS-R or Type-R I would just keep it naturally aspirated.

I would personally get whichever is in better shape for the cash. Ya know the quality too dollar value. The gsr is gonna be faster after 3rd gear, but it is also gonna cost ya a bit more.I love my ls and with bolt ons and weight reduction you can be around a stock gsr in the quarter, maybe a bit faster.

I'd say GS-R instead of say buying an LS and boosting it right off the bat. The GS-R will stay more reliable and give you less of a headache... until you get bored and decide to boost that
thx for the info after reading more into it i think i will go gsr and not boost seing that vtec is somewhat similar but not the same if u know what i mean. hopefully i will add all bolt-ons and get into the 14's maybe boost or supercharge later. if i do go forced induction should i boost or supercharge the gsr and also should i **** around with vtec controller or just leave it alone, because it will be an every day car.
Dude I say you go with an LS and BOOST it because its way more fun then a GSR in my opinion. I wanted a GSR till i turboed my GS and boy let me tell you i would take this any day over a GSR.. Now a GSR w/ boost is probably pretty crazy too but stock for stock.. the LS motor is a better choice for boost because of the low compression ratio.

If lower power output is better, and more tuning error margin is better, than yes, an LS is better because of the low compression. Since either the gsr or ls motor would be tuned ideally, the compression doesn't make that much of a difference, because both motors would be tuned to operate safely. btw, I say go w/ a GSR...if you want to boost, boost the GSR.
How is it wrong?
Yes you can turbocharge a GS-R, but explain why I am wrong on why the LS block is superior for boosting applications?
Low compression & no VTEC (y0!).
I stand by what I said. The LS motor is a far superior boosting platform.

Just gives more margin when it comes to tuning. If you have a competent tuner, this will not be an issue. Second reason, "no vtec"???? Vtec and turbo have proven to be an excellent combination, producing awesome results time after time. Maybe you said this because people believe "more parts, more there is to break". Please show me one instance (in a streetable app.) where any vtec "components" were broken due to adding a turbo. I stand by what I have always said, the LS is no better for turbo apps. than a b18c1 unless you have a shitty tuner.

Depends on boost, but the turbo LS would probably beat the stock GSR. But if you took the money you spent on a turbo for the LS and boosted a GSR at the same boost psi as the LS, the GSR will most likely win (driver factor).
I have a supercharger on my GSR and I loved it at first. Nothing like pulling up next to someone with a new 350Z and destroying them in a race! But a guy I know turboed his GSR with an XS Engineering kit and I have to say, I owuld trade my setup for his anyday. The kit is very well built and a lot of thought was put into it to work in perfect unison with the B18C1. It even comes with Hondata! Not to mention it will destroy my JRSC GSR no problem. But I'm selling my GSR now for something more practical
. So if you want a fast Honda and inexpensive Honda, go buy a GSR, a good exhaust setup (Comptech or Hytech), and slap in an XS Engineering kit and u'll be running low 13s no problem and still have a reliable car.
Oh, and if anyone wants a supercharged GSR with 110,000 miles that is really well taken care of with high quality parts (Comptech, Volk, AEM, & WW) PM me.

i have a 99 gsr and when i hit third gear no one can touch me its like im going downhill and the other car is going uphill towing a boat. Ls is better for turbo because of 2 things bullet proof block stock and longer gears in the trans and the downfall to the gsr is weak valves so watch out down go to high or youll be floatin valves....but really the smart choice is a gsr. I have 402 hp for 2 g's if you get a ls your gonna have to boost to get it which equals big bucks GSR=King of the road=mad biotches

in a ideal world, you want a high compression engine and boost, alot of people say it's "easier" to boost an LS because alot of people don't want to get into the tuning/fuel managment aspect of messing with there cars.
I know someone that want's to turbo their GS-R but didn't want to buy a VAFC because it's too technical..I give his motor about 25k miles.

I don't know if this is a reply to my post but the hondata is alot more technical then the VAFC so not sure what you mean.
