Low g-tech HP ratings on stock 97 SH
Hey everyone, I recently bought a g-tech on ebay for $50. All of the functions seem to work good, but the horsepower ratings are only showing about 138-140 everytime. I'm using it on a nice flat road and have tried going through first gear only, second gear only, combination of both with no luck. Is my car really down on horsepower? I've been able to pull off a 6.93 0-60, so it doesn't seem like it would be too low?? Thanks.
Maybe on a DYNO, not a g-tech. All that thing is good for, at best, is measuring a base line, and then seeing if anything you do to the car improves the times. That is if you drive exactly the same each time you do a test. That thing will not give "real world" numbers, only a tool to use to compare one modification to the next, on the same car.
That's kind of my point, you can't really use one of these things to compare from one car to another, only modifications you've made to your own car, to see if they were really worth it.

The G-tech itself is a decent unit for the cost. But remember, it'll only work comparing for your test area. Not everyone's (or yours) test ground will be level, not bumpy, etc. Nor does everyone know the exact weight of their car. Just set an arbritrary weight and keep it, and keep one test area to test. That's about it... But if you wanna have fun, find an area where you have a flat ground where you start and then a steep hill upward. You'll get into the 600+ hp range depending on the hill.
G-tech is not accurate, the only way to get a more accurate wheel horsepower measure is to go to a dyno. Even the acceleration measuring is not accurate go to the track for that, they have laser equipment solely for the porpose of measuring acceleration.
