Suspension Hybrid Questions
For my Prelude, there are no adjustable shocks made for the car. So I've been researching to see if any other Honda/Acura ones would. I have found that 89-91 CRX shocks will fit the front - albeit they are 2" taller than my Prelude's shocks. Will this cause a problem of them being semi-compressed all the time leading to prematurely worn shocks? For the rear, there are 90-93 Integra shocks... however these are 2" shorter than stock. Would this cause a difference in the ride height or the ride quality? Would this be possible to get it to work... also, shocks will most likely be Tokico Illumina's. Also, if anyone has any other ideas that'd be cool too. Thanks!
You are correct about longer struts. You will want to get the shorter struts and lower your car about the same amount. Although to me, the Prelude doesn't look like it should go much lower. So those rear struts will be fine but you'll want to find something for the front. This will give you a great advantage in handling because you will be closer to your optimum stroke, and you'll have more wheel travel, than someone who uses struts that are the same length as stock and they lower their car. Your ride quality will be better. Struts do not affect ride height normally, unless the spring perch is in a different position than on the stock struts. If it's higher, obviously your car will ride higher. But you could always cut off the spring perch and carefully reweld it in a different position. Just don't overheat the strut and have it explode on your ***. I believe Koni makes their struts with removable perches, or you could always get coilovers.
yea.. i want to be able to just buy a kit for one car..
and not mix and match springs from here and there with shocks from here and there..
it sounds like the back of the car would drop quite a bit, even with a coilover kit..
usually, a lot of coilover kits start with a slight drop.. so, if the shock is already 2 inches shorter to begin with..
i read the How-to on extending shock travel w/ the modified upper mounts and making front shorties and such..
i'm wondering if i'd be able to regain the lost shock travel from longer front shocks by doing this type of modification..
i also heard that some aftermarket companies shorten their shock bodies (i doubt by 2 inches).. but i was thinking that it might also help to find a closer match..

Check out the Koni "SP3" shocks sold by Neuspeed. I believe they are shorter, cut I don't know the exact length. The spring perch is adjustable (in five different height positions) using a snap ring (not threaded collars).
So, call Neuspeed and see if they can provide dimensions.
