Default Stereo Set up in Jeep Cherokee?

I am going to be doing a stereo in my friend's 1987 Jeep cherokee. I also want to get a job at a local stereo shop as an installer, so i would like to do a car as kind of a show off peice for my skill. I have mapped it out like this, and was curious if anyone has any ideas or issues with what i am thinking of doing.

First, the headunit is up to him, i have no say, because he supposedly knows someone who can get him sony **** cheap, so he might be running a sony deck, where as i prefer alpine.

Amp, i am gonna go with the Alpine MRV-F450, the 5 channel, 50x4 + 200x1, clean, easy, good price off ebay around 280. I was going to hide it under the fold-upable rear seat, trying to keep everything hidden.

At the speakers i reach a problem. I can build my own kick panels, and run 6 1/2 inch components, or i can run 5 1/4 in q-forms. I would much rather run the 6" because of the spaciousness of the jeep, and i can save money by building my own kick panels, plus it would look a little cooler. I saw alpine type r's on ebay for a stunning 122 a pair, so i will probably hop on those for 244 for the front and tailgate.
my other problem is do i run tailgate speakers, or should i build door panels for the rears. i wouldn't be as worried if i had time correction for the rears, but if its a sony HU, i doubt i would have it. Thats a decision i would like you guys to help me out on.

for the sub, i am going to build an inclosure to fill out the area around the rear passenger side tire well. I should have enough volume to drive a 12", but i could easily go with a 10". I am gonna go cheap here, and probably only go with a JL W0, whch i can pick up for like 110 around, and sounds perfectly fine.

That pretty much sums it up, and the issues are as follows. Where do i put the rear speakers? Is their enough leg room with 6 1/2" kick panels. do i stuff the box or not? is it necissary to dynamat the backside of the kicks, and thats about it.
were at about 850 dollars, minus a hu, for materials, wire, connectors, RCA's, and all other needed components, and we have some nice stuff going in this car. I think this is going to be a great sounding budget sound system, all purely dependent upon how well i do the install.

I look forward to your help on this little project.

If it was me.....

I'd keep the amp, then do 5.25" comps up in the q-forms, then throw 6.5" midbasses in the doors. Run a three way front stage active.

Leave the factory speakers in the rear - run that from the sony

And use an IDv3 instead of a W0 and thank me later

I'd much rather do that then just 5.25" in those Q forms and some louder speakers in the rear. Better sound, and you will get actual midbass if you prep the doors a bit.

Just my $0.02 - of course that makes the assumption that a jeep can handle door speakers...

how would i wire the system? i would have to use line level inputs because i would be using the sony to power the rear channel right? That is assuming that the sony has a switch to turn off the internal amp and run the rca's. so, are you saying

1. use the rca's front and rears to power the front half of the car, and us the actual line level to power the tailgate.

or

2. use all line level inputs from the sony HU.

also, i will get back to you tonight to see if it can handle larger door speakers. thanks rcurley, your the man, and i know you can explain this to me.

You can run both rca's and the internal amp at the same time. I have never seen a Sony that would switch between the two.

In my experienc, tailgate speakers don't really fill the cabin with sound very well. This would be exasterbated by the fact that they will only have power from the deck amp. I would try the system with the factory tailgate speakers before buying new ones, just to see if you can really notice them that much.
