Walked outside. No ITR.
The biggest scare of my ITR-owning life came last night. I walked out of a friend's apartment and the car was not where I had parked it. It had indeed been jacked...by the damn towing company. I had to go all the way down to Annandale to get the damn thing at 4 AM and pay $85 bucks.
Strangely, before I realized that it had been towed, not jacked, I felt something not like stress or anger, but relief. For 5 minutes, I was totally cool with not having an ITR anymore.
Signs of an ebbing dedication to my car, or just maturity kicking in?

Agreed.
Sometimes we all have to realize that these are just objects, not living, breathing people or pets that we care so much about.

Ross, did the ******* damage the car in any way? I walked out of the mall one day and found out that they had to move my car due to illegal parking because of some event. They messed mine up pretty good, but for some reason, it doesn't bother me anymore... I think it's the maturity. (Car is still damaged.)

It didn't look like anything happened to it. They towed it on a flatbed, if that makes any difference. It started up fine and the front lip looks just as it did before...horrendously banged up.
Rob - you're onto something there. Although, I had recently pledged to myself that I would keep the ITR until it was taken from me.

Area wasn't marked off as no parking. Also it was super vague about the parking, no signs and no security to tell me other wise. I know better than to park illegaly, smartguy.

You wouldn't be able to tell, anyway.
It'd just blend in w/everything else you've done to the poor car.

So basically you're saying they towed your car for no reason because there were no signs that said you couldn't park there.
And if they did that, you let it slide? Hah. I call BS. You were parked illegally.

You know i found myself sitting in the movies the other night nervous as hell all b/c i knew that my car was sitting outside without me. Then i really started to wonder if its freakin worth it.....i love the caR but it sux being paranoid about the **** all the time. I just stopped and realized that if any other car were out there right now i would give two ***** less and could have enjoyed the movie so much more. I have a beater but for goodness sake.......there is no reason that i shouldnt be able to drive that car as and not have to worry about it! Well....i guess thats just how its going to be.

ive heard of several ways to prevent theft and finding your car quickly after its been jacked. the best onethat ive heard yet is to buy a homing device and implant it in your car. has nayone here done this? and does this cost a arm and leg? ive also heard about that lo-jack system and how bad it is. anyone using that? i read that all they do when your car gets jacked is refund you for teh system. but the homing device sounds the best so far. i want to try it out when my project is done. any info, hel, opinions are appreciated.

I looked into GPS tracking systems and they are NOT cheap, over $1000 and then there is a monthly fee.
As for Lojack... sometimes it works and you get your car back other times it does nothing. And for getting abck you money if the car is not recovered, you have to ask Lojack for the details.

on a related note, back when I had my ITR, I came out of the movies, I forgot where I parked and couldn't find the car. At first I was really upset because I thought it was stolen, then I realized thats what insurance is for, and that all the worry isnt worth it (i was just thinking about selling at that time), and then I got pissed again because I found my car

You're lucky it wasn't a repo company that took your car.
I just saw a show on tv about those guys. They just drag cars away in Park - flatspotting the tires until they make their getaway - then later put them on a dolly or slimjim their way in and then put the car in neutral.
