Default Timing belt cover?

has anyone run into any problems leaving the timing belt cover off..

some say something can get in it but most leave them off to adj. cam gears sooo...

and how long approx. should a direct head exchange take?just trying to plan a weeknight or weekend?

the timingbelt cover is there to keep the belt from getting damaged. think about this. your at full clip in 3rd @ 6000 rpm about to shift into 4th ,you got a nose on the other car, and pulling away.a rock or pc of metal [say about the size of a dime] gets kicked up into motor bay,and falls into timeingbelt pullys or gears,belt gets cut [you may feel or hear something, @6000+rpm NOT ] then snaps, this all happens in 1sec. and just as you smack it into 4th ,you have a half car lead on the other car you hear kind of a funny sound up front [kind of fffffrrrraaaap] and at almost the same instant a very very very ugly sound [kind of BOOM] this is all dem velvs hitin dem 4 pistoms. never mind the price of new timeingbelt, you lost the race and had to walk home
