Stock rims are all chipped up, couple questions...
Hey guys, my stock rims are chipped up after 60K miles, and I want to recoat them. I am getting new tires here in a couple weeks, so thought it would be a good time. A buddy of mine does powder coating and I was thinking to redo them Bronze or Gunmetal. Has anyone done this? Also, what did you do about the center caps? Pics would be cool too. Thanks guys, Ryan
same thing I need to do! Powdercoating should probably work fine, or get a body shop to paint them. My roomate painted his S-10 wheels with damn spraypaint and they look great. I would try to get the paint code/color you need and see what fits your budget. I would think powdercoating would be more durable, but I don't know if they would look better/worse than paint. I guess keep in mind that almost every oem and aftermarket wheel is painted.

i'd be skeptical of painting my oem's, but depends what they're for. if they're for winter use like my crv steelies, then i wouldn't mind spraying them because my crv steelies came out great. also, spay paint is cheap.

i dont have any pics but i got my CW rims sandblasted and then powder coated in GM with a clear coat finish.....
I had the same damn problem...
You should strip em, then repaint em (or not - I just polished em, then clear coated em)

I had the rims on my last car stripped and powdercoated by the place next door to where i work. they did a good job for £20 each. i had them for a year and the paint still looked great untill they were sold. Even after i kerbed one of them they scratched but the paint didnt flake off. + plus there was about a 1000 colours to choose from.
If youve got a spare id get that done first as a test though.

Just take them to a body shop, yo. I bought some Rota subzero's a few months ago but I hate the color because it doesn't match my car. bright white rims + CW ITR = fuggin ugly. Anyway, there are being painted right now and I chose Lexus titainium with satin silver flake. It should look tight. Look for my post on Friday for before and after pics. Peace. PS - Oh yeah, it only cost me $170CAD for all the paint and labour for all four rims.
Thanks for all the info and pics guys! I decided to do it because all it will cost me is the price of the powder. Now all I have to do decide on a color: between Bronze and Gunmetal. Also, looking into new tires and suspension(I'm liking the price on the omnipower kits). Ryan
