I want to do a swap, but want to have an idea of the approximate costs of each swap to help in the decision. The swaps Im thinking of are either:
1) b18c
2) ls/vtec
The swap would be for a 6th gen civic coupe, so it would be obd2. So could someone give me a pricing on these swaps which would include the extra parts I'd have to buy to complete the whole swap. I would not be doing the swap myself but I would have a shop do it for me so the cost for labor would also have to be factored in. Also, could someone tell me the hp yields from these swaps before and after adding i/h/e. (the i/h/e does not have to be factored into the price)

Might as well go with the B18C1. I think in the longrun it'll be less than the Ls/Vtec.

 

Why in the long run will it be more, is it because maintenance on the ls/tec is always needed? or is it the combination of parts will have a higher cost then just getting the b18c?

 

the b18c jdm r motor you can find anywhere from 3000-4500 the ls/vtec you could put together anywhere from 2000 to 6000 it just depends on how much u are willing to spend.

personally the b18c is goin to be more reliable but i am a firm believer that you can get more power in a ls/vtec for sure...

 

Why is the LS/VTEC so unreliable? Also what all do you need. Just an LS motor and VTEC head (off a B16 or B18). What is the suspected power of a stock LS/VTEC?

 

you need a vtec head, ls block, ge ls/vtec kit, and some luck

 

I also recommend the GE oil feed kit. Way better than the eBay oil adapters. Some of them require that you remove your sender! Bad news. It's more bucks, but it's well worth it.

LS/VTECs needing more maintenance is a myth propogated because of bad engine builds. If you put the money into it and have the machine work done as well as build it properly with quality parts, it will last just as long as any other motor. It's just that the majority aren't done well, hence you always hear about LS/VTECs that are riddled with issues.

Basically, any poorly built motor will eventually have issues, not just hybrid head jobs.

 

i prefer the B18C for its butter lubrication abilities. (correct me if I'm wrong, the B18 doesn't have oil squirters on the bottom of the pistons)

I'm not a fan of hassles. although I'm sure the LSVTEC can make gobs of power as well, I'd rather bore out the B18C for more displacement.

 

b16a's are really cheap to get a hold of.

 

Just go LS turbo. If you bargin hunt you could be turboed for the price of a B18C swap
