Default Replaced my o2 sensors, checked my timing.. still bogging...

I'm thinking it's a plugged cat.

It runs bad into 3500rpm and then it runs well.

This is something i've noticed since I've changed my o2 sensor, and that when i'm going from 1st to 2nd gear at moderate load, it'll kinda sputter, sorta like a hiccup.

If i'm going really light, or really heavy on the gas, it won't.. which leads me to think that if i'm going to light, it'll filter through OK, if i'm going to hard, it'll force it all through.

Sounds logical, right?

Anyone back up my theories or provide other things to check for w/ this boggin issue?

TIA

Before you replace your cat, check to make sure your cam is timed correctly. The belt will slip when they get old.

Ok, I will.. I do think they're lined up well though, but I need to replace my timing belt anyways, just putting it off

ignition coil was replaced less than 2 yrs ago at a honda dealer (stalled on the freeway).

I'm convinced it's the cat.. i'm starting to smell exhaust fumes in my car.

My buddy had the same problem with his 97 EX, bogged down until about 3700-3900rpm and then seemed fine. He was also getting an almost sweet smelling exhaust scent in the cabin. Turned out the be a bad cat, hope its something less expensive for ya though.

to me it sounds like fuel filter
Its a lot cheaper than an expensive cat and easier to install too
plus...it wouldnt hurt to get a new one.

that basically describes it. Thanks for the feedback. Any idea how many miles he had? Mine's seen so many miles, it can only help.

This problem is relatively intermittent. Today it was running alright most of the time, but any loads or getting off the freeway onto the street tends to be boggy.

I was told by a honda dealer that the fuel filters were lifetime..... if not, i'll replace that soon as well but the cat is only $80 for me (offa here)....

My MPG is in the ~25 range but that's mixing city and highway driving at socal speeds.

My car has 215kmi on it.. not a lot i can really say, but the mileage isn't drastically bad.

How's your mpg, lostmyboost?

I tried swapping out the cat to a huge suprise, the cat's not plugged. It was completely translucent. So I have an ITR cat I need to get rid of. (and It didn't match up but that's my dumb fault)

Mine's intermittent, only happens sometimes, so I'm thinking it's TPS or tranny related now (I have an AT), but both are just speculation.

I have no real idea what's causing it.

So to recap on the Unoffically Offical Boggin' thread, I replaced both o2 sensors, checked my cat and it's translucent, and checked the timing.

here's the issue....

it works fine at higher rpm but not at lower ones (and this one in my case is intermittent) so it makes me thing the fuel supply is consistant.

"hows your mileage lostmyboost"...

we put 25 bucks in the tank...to top it off, then drive from from scripps ranch to escondido, on a cold night...by the time we got back to scripps we had a half a tank i will admit i was not driving at 65mph, i actually did a couple full pulls to see how well the car ran but still the car burned WAY to much gas. i have just done an o2 sensor and re calibrated the tps along with new plugs so we will see how it does, i also took some timing out...the old lady says it feels smoother (it's her car).

I had a similar problem on low rpms bogging, then working fine after 3grand. My particular problem was my spark plug and wires. The car would start fine, but would just bog down on low RPMS. I don't know if yours is the same issue, but that might be something to look at too.

wow dude your mileage is horrible. You have a serious problem which is vastly different than mine.

I'm probably going to replace the plugs, It sure can't hurt, but on the same light, I think I changed them ~25k mi ago.

Check for exhaust leaks. Make sure all your gaskets are solid, all the bolts are present and torqued properly. If it's not that then you should try and find the smell, maybe you have an fuel/oil/coolant leak and its burning on some hot metal.

ecu in limp mode, cel's or anything... but if the cat is clogged it might start to backfire soon.. a good sign thats what it is.. you could advanced your timming just a bit and run it hard.. see if it starts to pop..

all and all it turned out to be my ECU, that's why my car was bogging. But then again i was running a JDM d15b on a CX ecu, so i'm sure that's why. You alread re-calibrated your TPS sensor, which is what i would have checked, as well as the timing and exhaust leaks. Just make sure everything is on point, it could also be your ECU - depending on the set-up

Do you have an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator? Might want to check it or your stock one. My car runs and smells like that when I have my fuel pressure tunred up to high.

I got the same exact problem on my d16y8. I think it is the o2 sensor. My gas milage sucks and I have now power. It seems like somedays it runs strong and then other days like ****. Well I might try new plugs, but I just put them in not to long ago and they were pre-gapped. Let me know if you guys figure it out. I know their are alot of threads about this, but know one seems to have a solution.
