Hoosier A3S04 discussion
My first event on my new skins went a bit worse than i had expected.
Partially i believe this was due to the fact i had not scrubbed the tires in, yet they did not scrub in as quickly as i had expected.
First run was a joke thanks to the mold release.
Second the tires seemed to come in near the end of the run yet I still expierenced a lot of oversteer.
I then took a look at the rear tires and after my second run I had barely scrubbed the outermost 2 inches of the tire. The rest of the contact patch was still smooth to the touch. Now i have about 2 degrees of rear camber and i had already compensated for the expected oversteer with the lowest rear shock setting i had.
Third and fourth run the car behaved similarly, a lot of oversteer first half, not as much second half.
So i guess my question is should i just switch pairs front to rear scrub em and hope for the best?
What sort or results have you guys been seeing with the A3S04s??
MY setup
CX hatch
225/45/13
Diamond racing 13X9's
KYB AGX
Ground Controls 380F/450R
The car was great with the ECSTA V700s, all that was chenged was the tires.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

S04's are a different beast as far as pressures and "break-in" procedure.
I've heard of guys running 2-3 lbs more in the S04's vs 03's to 6-8 lbs more on some applications.
And yes, first few runs will be a joke on those tires.

the break in period is critical, you must put one heat cycle and let them set for 24 hours. the S04's react like the old bias plys as well, the first run will be very fast, and you may end up cooling down the tires between runs when over 75 degrees.

hmm, at the Ft. Myers Tour, where it was reasonably warm, and on concrete, and with my codriver getting 2 re-runs, it felt like they kept getting faster...
guess i could be wrong, it was only the 2nd event on them

The first time my co-driver and I ran the S04 was at the Atwater NT. We went to the Friday practice with fresh tires. We had about 2-3 psi more than the S03. The Friday practice was basically our break-in period. Saturday came, the car handled nicely. It was the first time that I felt comfortable pushing the car more, I don't know if it was due to the combination of concrete and the new S04, but I really like those tires.
BTW, this is on a B-Stock S2000, and me.....new to RWD.

Exactly the same thing I did...it took me 6 laps on the shitty practice track to get the tires scrubbed...my buddy was waiting a few yards from the finish line with a pyrometer. I didnt even stop to get my time slip to get a more accurate reading. Put 34psi all around and ended up with 32front and 28rears...225/45/15 front, 205/50/15 rear, Hoosier A3SO4

Seems lots of people are trying to figure out the new tire. So much so that Hoosier has posted a tech bulletin on the site. http://www.hoosiertire.com. Look under news> product bulletin> R3S04.
You have to cycle the Hoosiers properly or they will turn to junk. We tell all our customers to go out on cold tires to first build some heat 3-4 laps, gradually picking up the pace. Then give it 2-3 race pace laps, just don't slide the car or brake to hard. Come in immediately and let them cool. 24 hours is the ideal, but most people can't meat that. Let them cool as long as you can. Keep them out of the sun.
When you change pressures, only go in 1-2 lbs increments. Word from Hoosier, and we deal with the product manager on a weekly basis, is same pressures as the 03 at first then adjust from there. It is going to take a little time to dial them in.
One last comment, the tire is a gauge of how the car is set-up. If the car oversteers or understeers it will show up in the wear patterns of the tire. As will over driving, flat spots and bad set-up I.E. camber adjustments. The tire only goes where the car and driver tell it to go. If the tire looks bad, it is not a bad tire, it is bad driving or a bad set-up.

hmm talking auto X not road race here.
Heat cycling and such are a bit different
I prefer not to have tires heat cycled and wish to risk the life for the grip i may gain.
oh well ill get em broke in and post another update.

I was at 34 all around and barely rolling the sholder

6 runs?? wow i guess i grossly underestimated the need for scrub in

Well, how about after 4 runs, I wasnt slipping and sliding as much as my first and second...but definitely after 6 tries with a bit of cooling time in between, they pretty much stuck like glue.
