Hypothetical (maybe) Question
What kind of top speed would, say, an 88-91 ITA Civic/CRX see in the 1/4 mile?
Have any of you IT CRXen drivers actually run the 1/4?
Scott, researching.

Naws. 2 of the big ones. Talk to harry.... he can hook it up overnight from Japan.
If you are not granny shiftin and double clutchin, you'll have a 10 second car.
But if you even lose by an inch, you lost and you never had your car and you're definately not a real racer.

Funny you should ask...Larry Webster has a write up of what it takes to build an ITA CRX in the spring issue of Car and Driver's Boost.

Here's a rundown of the test results (car has a 4.71 FD):
0-30: 2.7sec
0-60: 7.1sec
0-100: 21.0
1/4mi: 15.6 @ 89mph
If any of you would like, I have a PDF of the article. I just haven't posted it due to copyright concerns.

My guess was "about 90mph."
So I'll give myself a prize later.

Thats a powerful nose you got up there. You can smell that? Even over the smells of New Jersey?
Scott, who already has everything but the chassis.

I believe a former ARRC winner, the #60 OPM car, ran a 15.3 @ 92 (or 93) mph in the 1/4 at Atlanta dragway (Commerce) on dirt stockers a few years ago. This is with an lsd and a 4.7 FD if I'm not mistaken. I think that's pretty impressive.

I'm not sure how much faster an IT preped motor will be but my sts civic ran a 15.9 at commerce. That strip is supposed to be a good 3 tenths or so slower than most. I just added some lighter wheels and a crank pulley so hopefully I'll be going back when I get some time to see if it got any faster.

As someone who has worked the Challange the last 2 years... if you want to do well, you better at least be in the 12s at the strip. The points system is biased towards the drag race rather than the autocross.
That's a lot of NAWZ starting from ~15...

Not really trying to win. More of an exercise in seeing if I can build a fun autocross car out of spares and junk lying around from the ITC car with a few ebay purchases peppered in here and there.
It appears that actually winning that event takes far more manhours and fabrication ability than what I have to work with. But I think I can put together something respectable. IF I can find a chassis that is somewhere in the neighborhood of *free.*
I have to claim a reasonable value for the stuff I already have, which shouldn't take me over budget, but I can't really spend much on the chassis.

These cars were high 15's in the high 80's stock, so I'm suprised thay ain't that much faster all race-riced up. Might have something to do with tire choice, despite short gears and a slip.
Actually, they were low 16 stock. 16.3 was about the average. It did not take much to get them into the 15's though.
My 15.0 was before I had a LSD though. I am betting the car now is capable of a high 14.

Going back to the article, they've nicely listed test results from back in '88 as well.

Well, I based my reference timewise from the 86 Civic Si's I've had, both which ran 16.2-3's at 83-84. Weighed around 1950-1975. 91hp. A next gen CRX Si, with a little more power, but not much more weight should have been just a little bit faster both in time and trap speed.
