Need help with H22A4 swap.....ATTS
I'm getting ready to ship a H22A4 block into GE for sleeving, and still need to source a trans for my swap. In an article in Sport Compact Car on swapping a H22 into an Accord it reads:
"The only H22 to avoid is from the Type SH Prelude. The brilliant torque distribution system (an electronically controlled box of clutches bolted to the block that Honda calls ATTS) replaces the intermediate shaft and its mounting bracket. The engine and transmission code to avoid is H22A4 and M2U4, respectively. Again, when someone actually swaps this in functionally, let us know."
I don't want to get a lot of $$ into this engine, just to find out that it won't work!! I'm assuming that I just need an intermediate shaft in place of the ATTS, but I'm hoping someone can verify this. Thanks!!

a friend of mine has a del sol with h22/atts system on it. he wanted to get rid of the atts system but the block is designed differently and a halfshaft wont bolt up from what i've seen. so you're stuck with the atts unless you get new block.

I was just going to say....H22A4 is a 5th gen lude engine code.
So no worries! :D

You use the base model intermediate shaft & fab up a small adapter to mount it to the block in place of the ATTS unit. Not too tricky - a search in the Prelude forum should bring up a couple people who've done it.
Both base & SH engine blocks use the H22a4 code - easiest way to tell them apart is by the oil filter location. SH block has it up just to the side & underneath the intake manifold on the timing belt side. And the presence of the ATTS unit itself would probably be a pretty big giveaway . . . .
