how can you tell the diffrence between a h22a and a h22a from a type S engine
some kid is trying to sell me an h22a swap and he says its a type s,
is there anyway to tell by just looking at the swap if its a type S or not?

Type s swap has, Red Valve Cover, H22A stamped on the block no number after the letter. Im sure there are a few more cosmetic differences but i dont know them off the top of my head
h22hatchy just got a usdm type s block installed on his jdm h22a head. The badge on the block says h22a4. The only other difference that we can tell is that the oil filter is in a different spot. Hope that helps.

Your buddy got suckered....that's a USDM Type-SH block...there's nothig special about it...and the block won't bolt to a regular tranny...he's fucked.

A REAL Type-S is similar to a type-S...and is compatible with an ATTS equipped transmission. The block and head should have P5P stamps on them, the TB should be 62mm, the lift on the intake cam is 12.1mm
anyways I would say you're talking alot of risks..

the H22 Type-S has "P5P" cast into the back of the block and the Block designation is just H22A.
It has ATTS, 11:1 compression, beefier rods with laser engraved designations instead of stamped, bigger cams (like satan said) etc. yes the red valve cover (though not unique)

Yeah a engine code of H22a and a block Stamp of P5P will give you a good idea that it is a type-s
although the type-s does not have beefier rods

I knew those pictures looked farmiliar heh heh.
BTW, I have confirmed that the Type S and Euro R H22 cyl. heads have the Honda GREEN PAINT MARKING on the outside of the head (similiar to the Integra R cyl. heads).
It is on the FRONT of the head between cyls. 1 & 2.
This would be another thing to look for to verify it is a Type S engine . . .

Yeah since I bought the block from you I was thinking that you might not mind me using the link. Otherwise PM me and I will edit them out of my posts.

no worries. Use any of my pics, as long as it is not used for profit (i.e. business) I don't mind.
Have you installed it yet?
:-)

My old block and entire motor was a jdm h22a. I still have that head, now I have a built h22a4 block. I still have my jdm h22a tranny. Some modification (welding a bracket etc.) was needed to use the tranny. Something about the half shaftand something else being different.
