Default How Much Boost Is OK!?!

Whats Up Fellas well i just got a boost controller and i was curious what everyones opinion on how much boost i could push without risking detonation. I have a 2000 Civic Si (B16A2) with JE 9.0:1 pistons and stock rods. My fuel system is ok to handle high boost except for my virgin ECU (thatll be fixed soon ) So what do yall think...i was thinkin like 14 PSI but id like an experienced opinion.
Thanks ....Y2KCivicSiR

what is your fuel system?

How are you going to adjust the timing at that much PSI??

While on a dyno at a professional shop, tuning my motor with Eagle rods, Endyne pistons, an STR blockguard, and a good tunable ECU with good sized injectors and fuel pump, we deemed it a safe streetcar limit at 1 bar, which is about 14.5 PSI.

I completely agree with this assumption. 1 tank of even slightly bad gas with just slightly off tuning can spell disaster for stock sleeves when you're pushing 2x the normal cylinder pressures on our engines.

If I had delegated to step up to some race gas, they were all for upping the horsepower ante, but I'm all about my streetcar-ness with my car. I'll make the number on pump gas, thank you.

My fuel system consists of walboro fuel pump AEM fuelrail/regulator and RC 310cc injectors...right now im running my timing at 2degrees adv. on intake and 1degree ret. on exhaust. I have a stock ECU tho...thats gonna hold me back.

Without any GOOD way of tuning the car, and if you don't have a wideband handy, 7-8 psi is pushing your luck... Get it on a dyno and tune it before upping the boost.

Umm...you do know that's cam timing and not ignition timing right? You need to alter ignition timing.

I would not even think of turning up the boost that far on 310s.

Find you some 550s and get SOME sort of engine mgmt before you are rebuilding that thing.

Bro...you know you're an idiot, right?
Seriously though, I give you a round of applause for trying it. For all we know, we could have been duped all this time and 16.5 was actually safe. You would have pioneered that. Think Jinxproof and stock blocks...

rebuild it and give it to someone who deserves it

I run 1 Bar (14.7) on a stock B16a (2mm headgasket) and plan to boost more now that i have larger injectors

wow ... i dont even know how to respond to what u did.. first mistake it sounds like u didnt do your homework on turbo Dos and Donts. what possessed u to boost on 310cc injectors WITHOUT ANY engine management or even FMU for for that matter i have no clue. all well.. lesson learned.

holy ****...21psi, that must scare the internals 21 psi means nothing. He said hes running 450cc injectors so i doubt hes make much over 325whp, which is what really matters. Stock motors have held alot more.

Great job.

Do you know that after you hit 11 psi, the ECU can't add fuel anymore anyway (considering the fact that you have 310 cc/min injectors, it probably started leaning out around 5 psi.)

I bet you were leaner than stoich in boost.

Good job though. I mean, if you don't know what's going on, it's always a good idea to change stuff.
