How long does it take to reach 140 MPH?
How many seconds does it take a stock Type R to reach 140 MPH? And how many miles would it require to reach that speed?
Road and Track recorded the Type R achieving 120 mph in 32 seconds. Due to wind drag it will take around 25-30 seconds to accelerate from 120 mph to 130 mph. The duration to achieve yet another 10 mph on top of 130 mph would be over 1 minute by my rough calculations. My estimation for the total minimum time for a stock Type R to accelerate from a standstill to 140 mph would be in the ballpark area of 122 seconds or 2 minutes.
I’m guessing the distance required to reach 140 mph would be a tad bit over 2 miles. What are your thoughts guys? Anyone do experimentation with a stop watch? I’m not looking for the EXACT time but more of a ballpark number.

I think 2 minutes seems to be a bit long....It only takes 14.5 seconds to reach 95 MPH from a standing start, so the transition from 95-140 shouldn't take a full minute and 45 seconds.
itrsport.....which road and track are you refering to? month? year?
how about this..how long would it take an itr w/ mugen i/h/e to reach 140?
btw- not trying to be a smartass....hey josh you got a nice site goin on there,keep up the good work.....

I'd say itrsports's number is pretty close. After you reach 100mph, it gets exponentially harder to gain speed. For example, i remember seeing on TV the Lingenfelter Vette doing top speed runs, it did 220mph, they said to reach 240mph they would need 400 more hp!
The Road & Track I’m referring to was the one back in 1997.

I realize this was one of the slower 1/4 mile times for a Type R but this is one of only a few test that run up to 120 mph. Besides, the number of seconds it takes to get to 120 mph is not going to be drastically affected by a slightly weaker Type R. I’m not sure what kind of outcome the Mugen parts would have on this test. I would assume they would slice off at least a few seconds.
ThePunk - I’m going to stand by my original figures - at least until someone does other calculations or tests. 94Accord is right about acceleration becoming exponentially slower as wind drag increases. Those last 10 mph between 130 mph and 140 mph just creep slowly. This is where most of the time is tacked on for those 2 minutes I estimated.
Take a look at the times to specific speeds in that R&T article. If you find the time between each 10 mph increments you can clearly see this exponential decay of acceleration.
90 to 100 mph ---> 3.8 seconds
100 to 110 mph ---> 3.9 seconds
110 to 120 mph ---> 10.2 seconds

I went from 40-140 on the interstate one time, and I really don't think it took 2 minutes to do that. Started in third and shifted at redline from 3 to 4 and from 4 to 5. I'm thinking it didn't take much more than 1 minute. Wish I had timed it now...

have you guys seen the video of the itr doing 0-223kmh? was that done on a dyno? the video lasts only 28 seconds and he gets up to 223 kmh.. must be the mods then and his car must be on the dyno.. but i hear wheels squeeling.
i'm guessing like 2 minutes..... i went 150 before and it didn't seem no longer than 2-3 minutes.. But i can't be too sure.. it didn't take that long though...
Ah putting what you learn in school to good work I see. Don't even think of trying this stunt, atleast wait until spring so I can come along and hold the camcorder
Spoke to the girlfriend about this (who was in the car). She confirms that the 40-140 run seemed to take less than a minute. We, of course, may be mistaken. Hopefully, the other three participants in this particular experiment will add to this thread

if the car was on the dyno, that would mean the car is running under almost perfect driving conditions. not taking into account wind or road conditions
ill go ask this guy Mark in my area who has a '01 R he ran it 0-135 last friday night and see how long it took him.......oh wait a min......he lost control at 135 and hit a tree was ejected through the windshield while still in his seat buckled up and is dead. I hope you guys keep this to just the message board and dont actually try to go this fast.

Ooops, didn't realize someone already said that....

i hit 140 in my GSR n it didn't take no more than a minute and .15 sec or maybe less. i rolled it, hit second n gunned it
i have aem intake, dc headers, apexi n1 exhaustn nology wires. If can't handle speed u shouldn't be driving Integras.
I luv hittin 120 plus is da only rush

It took me 55 seconds to reach an indicated 145mph in my 5th Gen Prelude (w/I/H/E). I know this b/c we recorded it & did a capture of the sound and the .wav is 55 seconds. I have a copy of it, if anyone wants it, its funny to hear.

wat do u drive a pinto, 140mph on a open hwy late nite is da best time. like i said if u can't handle speed u shouldn't be drivin integras. everybody on this board luvs SPEED. i don't drive reckless in da streets, stupid people do.
