Default Best oil to use

It's summer and I'm going to start changing my oil (too damn cold in the winter for that stuff). I read the post a while back on what oil everyone uses, but what is the best to use for performance?

Synthetic? Blend? Weight? Brand?

It's my daily driver but I dont want it to keep going through that slosh, i'd like to have an oil that the parts can cut through cleanly so I dont lose much performance wise. I've heard a lot about Red Line and Royal Purple, but do these work on a daily driver?

And once I get a turbo in it, what is going to be the best for my setup?

No, i get my oil changed in the winter through the dealership, I change oil every 3000 miles all year round. It's just that I get discouraged by the freezing weather Icy driveways dont make good things to lay down on

Amsoil
I don't know much about oils, but you're one of the first people I've seen that actually seem to have no problem with Amsoil.

most stuff on the shelf today is crap....
can someone back this up for me because that statement sounded like total BS to me. I've had nothing but great experience from off the shelf oil (I personally use Castrol GTX 20W50 (heavy weight for high mileage) ) .

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic on my accord 2k, and never have had a problem. I drive on that oil for about 5500 some times even upto 7000 depending on the time of the year it is and I have never had a problem. It is a great motor oil...

I am not a science mayor or know anything about the composition of each oil, but I like Mobil 1 - give it a try!!!

Mobil 1 or valvoline

FILTER is at LEAST as important as the oil

MOBIL 1 or Purolator PURE 1 or Wix(upper model, whatever one it's called)

What about Honda filter, not good enough? I've been using Honda filter, but I'm willing to change if you guys recommend something else.

Again, what I thought. I'll check up on the p/n next time I go to get my oil filter. Didn't know there was a Fram made Honda filter.

My dad said he's seen a Honda head that's been though jillions of miles with GTX and the head was still pretty clean, so that's part of the reason I've been using the Castrol.

that's the thing...
HONDA, like many others, farms out there Filter manufacturing to oil filter companies...they don't make their own (I don't believe)

So why not GO with an acutal Filter manufacturing company so you know what you're getting?

as far as bang for the buck- PURE 1 is Great..plus you can buy them EVERY Where

How is Amsoil overrated? It's what I use, and it's been scientifically proven to protect better than any other oil...by independent tests.

You gave Castrol Syntec a thumbs up...why is that? Do you like paying synthetic prices for a non synthetic oil? Because that's what Castrol Syntec is...it's not a true synthetic unless it's the German brand.

go to http://www.bobistheoilguy.com ....those guys are experts, those guys take their oil to labs and have them tested for breakdown.

Saying "I've never had any problems with xxx brand oil" isn't the most reliable information to go on....if these people can tell their engines are wearing from just looking at them, then they should be in the psychic business.

Best oil you can find at places like Wal Mart is Mobil 1 Supersyn...hands down.

Don't post on that site...just read...those guys are far and beyond experts and don't have time for "What type of oil should I use?" If you do some searches, you'll find your answer. Enjoy!

I use Amsoil in my ITR...

My Accord has been on a steady diet of Valvoline Dino oil it's entire life...changed every 3k by the original owner and by me since 242 which is when I bought it.

You can get Valvolines synthetic oil on special now. Buy 6 quarts, send valvoline your receipt and they will give you your money back.

Can you use an S2000 filter in a 97 Accord EX? Just not sure and want to get a good filter. Right now I'm running Mobil 1 oil and filter.

I've too heard the Mobil One synthetic oil chorus touting its great benefits ad nauseum, and it is fine oil if used from the start.

But buying synthetic oil for a car which has a history of non-synthetic usage is a waste of money and in fact can do your engine harm: synthetic oils such as Mobil One tend to clean out built-up, packed sludge at the seals, causing leaks.

It was a master mechanic who told me this (I was surprised when I first heard it) and it was confirmed by another master mechanic.

In summary, if you've used synthetic oil from the start, stick with it. If not, which seems your case, don't use it. For the proper weight, consult your manual.

Eh...to be honest, I'm not a big fan or redline...after seeing some UOA's over at bobistheoilguy.com, you see a lot of inconsistencies with each batch of redline...not something one would want when paying 7 bucks a quart.
