did they buy that from the honda dealer? maybe you can have your parents take it back and trade for a 5 speed.

No offence, But you got a new car FOR FREE. Use it was a daily beater (beater ) and build a race/street car or something.

Do you have car payments?? - If not, I say get over the auto tranny and be thankful for what you have been given, may not be AS FUN as the five speed, but at least you are not walking..

Congrats

Yeah, it's a free car, but it's his parent's money. Getting a free car from parents is different than getting a free car from a raffle. I think he would still want his parents money to be well spent. Since the car is still brand new, I would go back and talk to the dealer and see if they would offer a full refund for this car in agreement that you'll buy a more expensive Si. If this doesn't work, maybe you can ask if they can do a straight trade with a 5-speed EX, which is a bit cheaper than an automatic EX so it is likely that they will agree on it. Try talking to the salesperson first. If that doesn't work, talk to the sales manager. Good luck!

you and the creator of this thread are idiots.

You get something for free you want the next best thing. Trying to get more milk out of the cows tit when you got lucky just to squeeze it in the first place.

May darwin be with you.

Smart money (and trust me I have been there and done that) would keep that car and its auto tranny just as it is for a great daily driver/college car. Use the money from your job, old car, grad money and whatever else to buy a cheap shell or project car, and build it up. Believe me, in comes in VERY HANDY to have a nice daily driver while the project car is being worked on

Who are you referring to as "you"? I would be very thankful if my parents bought me a new car. I look at it more like it's the family's money. If I buy my mom a car after I get a stable job, I would want it to be the car she wants (for the given price range). His parents probably don't mind him trading because their money would be better spend on something their son would prefer. If he trades his automatic EX for a 5-speed EX, and provided the dealer would allow a straight trade, then everybody wins. His parents wouldn't have to spend more money and he gets a transmission that he prefers. If somebody gets a Civic, and whines that he didn't get an NSX, then that I would agree that the kid is a spoiled idiot. If the dealer calls the sale final, then he should still be thankful that his parents were nice enough to buy him a new car.

I agree with both your statements completely man.
Yeah, it was a free car, but how much is he going to care about a car he hates? Plus, why would I want my parents to waste their own money? I know a lot of you guys don't care and consider your parent's money their money and your own money your money. But being brought up as an Indian I see everything as our stuff and our money. ..... I'd be pretty upset if my parents gave me a 2004 Honda Civic EX Automatic.

Just give it to me, but it does have Vtec.

It is cool as long as the person that got the car for free does not attack the people that got them the car because s/he does not like it. Trading the car straight up for a manual is cool but if s/he makes it out to be a burden that s/he has the car is dumb.

as far as im concerned .. youre lucky. My parents got me a 95 auto civic and i was a happy ****. Ive done alot of work to it since like 5spd and alot of the tuner goodies, and thats all part of the fun. And i know a few of the lucky highschool kids who have Evo8s and 350zs no joke. Be thankful and work it up

Some of you guys are dicks, seriously. The kid got a car, he said he appreciates it, he would just prefer a different transmission or a similarly priced Si. His parents said they don't mind if he switches it. It has a warranty so it's not like he can just find a transmission and swap it.

This is like exchanging a pair of jeans you got for Christmas that didn't fit quite right. Am I missing what the big deal is?
