Help with code 9?
I really need some help with this code 9 I'm getting. This is a 91 DX hatch OBD0 with a B16a swap. I had to re-wire the plug for the distributor to a round plug which I think I got off of a ODB0 accord from a local junkyard. Everything is working ok except for this ECU code 9.
This is how I have the cyl sensor wired. If you look at the distributor plug (from the main harness) with the wires comming toward you and the tab on top, you'll have a row of 2 wires, then a row of 4 wires (left most is empty) and a bottom row of 2 wires. The bottom row of 2 wires is supposed to be for the cyl sensor. On my plug the left wire is blue white and the right wire is blue green. For some reason I think that the colors are backwards compared to other SI plugs, so I wired the cyl sensor based on the position of the wires in the plug, ignoring their color. the left wire on the bottom row is wired to C1 on the ECU, and the wire on the right in the bottom row is wired to C2. I've verified continuity to the ECU for both wires. I've even tried switching the right and left wires incase they were hooked up backwards, but I still cannot get rid of code 9.
Now I suppose its entirely possible that the cyl sensor in the dizzy is just bad, and I need to get a new dizzy, but before I do that I just wanted to check my wiring agaist what you guys have incase I made a big boo-boo somewhere. A friend of mine is borrowing my multimeter right now, so I can't measure the resistance between the 2 wires, I know that's another way to tell weather the sensor is bad or not. Anyone have any other ideas before I go out and get a new dizzy? Anyone with a b16 swap in the chicago area want to swing by for a beer and compare wiring (or possibly loan me a dizzy to test)
?
I've also heard that I need to use shielded wire. Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks guys!

What distributor are you using? Why did you have to put a round plug on it? You're not trying to use the DX distributor are you, cause thats not going to work.

Code 9 is CYP... which should be wired to c1 and c2 (doesn't matter which goes to which as long as its the correct 2 wires)

I've had no problems in the last 8 years running unshielded wire from the distributor all the way to the ECU, but of course, it would be a cleaner signal if you shielded the wire, but its not necessary.

I switched it to a round plug because my car was a DX. The DX wiring harness has a square plug which had to be switched to the round plug to match up to the B16 dizzy, which I am currently using. I have the CYP sensor (blue green and blue white on the dizzy) wired to C1 and C2. I've heard from several people who have had this same problem that shielded wire solved the error code for them.

i have sucess fully used a DX dissy on a MPFI car
and worked fine
i even have a code 9 on my car since i made my swap and doesnt affect performance even now that i am turbo
now, of ocurse u want to usethe right one, and thats the Si one
just pointing the dizzy issue out

I did this same thing and had the same problems you're having. I highly highly doubt that your dizzy is bad and am 99% sure it's your wiring. It took me two weeks to figure out what was wrong and it was my wiring like everyone else had said when I asked about it.
