Default Manual Transmission Fluid.....

Does anyone know the exact weight and viscosity of the MTF used by honda? I've already checked the service manuals and the Qt. bottles for this information but all the label said was that it was a special fluid used for all honda manual transmissions.

Sorta makes sense...

Honda used to specify 10w-30 engine oil before they started 'making' MTF. Not that I have any objective measurements, but it looks about like the same viscosity as 10w-30 engine oil. But you can smell the EP additives.

BTW, remember that gear oil viscosity is on a whole different scale. 70w-90 gear oil is close to the viscosity of 10w-40 engine oil.

wait a minute so u guys are saying 10w-30 is the grade oil used in honda manual transmissions?... thats kind of hard to believe...But do any of u guys know exactly what the gear oil weight and viscosity is? the reason why im asking is because sometime this week im going to get my car dynoed and tuned... the tuner told me to get some new spark plug wires, redline 5w-30 oil, and redline gear oil... plus im going to be installing the my hks circle earth ground kit after i do a base line run.. My current mods to the car is ls/vtec with oversized type r pistons, exedy organic clutch, skunk2 manifold with hondata gasket, type r cai, dc jdm headers, t1r resonated test pipe, and apex n1 catback exhaust and im going to tune the car with a vafc 2 hack...but im hoping to put down the pretty good numbers but i still need to find out what kind of gear oil the gsr tranny use.

Well i've decided now not to worry about the viscosity and weight of the gear oil used in the gsr tranny. im just going to go ahead and buy some gm syncromesh after spending 2 hours reading all kinds of stuff about this miracle fluid. Seems like every1 likes to use this fluid so i guess ill go pick some up to.
