Default valve clearances

I have a 1992 honda accord 4 cyl.I have a Haynes manual that gives me the valve adjustment procedure but does not give me the clearances for the exhaust and intake adjsutments..What are they?

Secondly ,on page 2A-4 it says to "apply beads of RTV sealant to the corners where the cylinder head mates with the rocker arm assembly".Would this be the dished out area around the rocker arms?if so does anyone have some online photos that can point to me where exactly I should put them?Someone on another forum said I should use Hondabond instead of RTV.Any real significant difference?

Thirdly,This car was just given to me and it is losing oil. When I got it the oil was barely visible on the dip stick.I filled it to capacity but when I got home(100 miles later) it needed another quart and one half. Now the strange part is that I changed out the oil and filter today.Went with 10-40 instead of 10-30,drove it 50 miles and no oil drop was noticed.Could the switch from 10-30 to 10-40 made that big of a difference?Only signs of oil leak I can find are around the valve cover and grommets. Can't really be sure if this is current or in the past but I have bought a valve cover gasket set for when I do adjust the valves.

Another thing I noticed was that when I lifted the hood from my 50 mile ride it seemed extremely warm under there although the temprature needle on the dash was right where it should be.Strange??????????Do Honda's just run hot?

Any help you guys can give will be greatly appreciated.

Shadetree out!

Default Re: valve clearances (edwardamason)

Honda's and other Japanese makes usually run real cool compared to say VW and stuff.

I would say get yourself a Helms manual. Peeps on e-bay sell cd's for like $6 or so.

Hondabond is real nice but I've always used Permatex UltraBlue.

Set lash to 0.007/0.009 with slight drag on the feeler guage and you should be coo!
