b16 cable tranny advice please
I have a 92 gsr with a b18c1...mated to an s1. Now, this s1's synchros has taken a **** on me, so I'm in the market for another.
I have bought the ACT XTSS set-up for the s1.
I know ys1's have bigger shafts, so this clutch will not work.
Now, that being said, I'd like to have OEM LSD-equipped b16 tranny. Is it true that y1's have the smaller shafts like the s1? If need be, I'll bump up to the ys1(probably xsi since USDM ys1's are impossible to find...excluding the LS).
But bumping up to a YS1 means I'd have to get another clutch disk, which I'm not really wanting to do....so that's why I'd like to go with a y1..if possible.
Are there other options for me(LSD-wise)? I dont want to install an aftermarket LSD...
Thanks

Best choice is to find a JDM Y1 LSD tranny. Y1 and YS1 were the only B series cable transmissions that had an optional LSD. Good luck finding one. Try asking Newman @ http://www.jdmshit.com

Thanks for the info.
Does the Y1 have the same shaft size as the YS1, or is the Y1 the same shaft size as the S1?

Im in a similar boat as you. I cant find out what I need to rebuild my y1 w/lsd. I dont think I need gears just snyrcos and bearnings.....Much help would be apprecaited
A1/S1/J1/Y1 are all in the same 25mm spline family, and the YS1 is a 26mm spline.
You can use some synchros from D series trannies to repair the S1 family gear boxes, but I don't have all the info on that.
Shame on me for selling my pristine Y1 LSD tranny last year. I'm kicking myself in the *** now...

Ok, so I dug up some more info cruising g2ic...YS1 is probably the best tranny(lsd or non) as far as cable trannies go.
But the YS1 has the larger spline, as mentioned by JDMDA9(who I also believe is on g2ic
)
So, if you want to keep your cable b16 clutch, go for the Y1 with LSD. Which is the route I will be going(ordering two from steve at hmotors on Monday, hopefully he has them in stock).
HOWEVER, according to numerous online tranny spec sources, Y1 seems to have longer gears than the S1/J1/etc b16 cable trannies. Not by much, but it's there. Not as long as the LS trannies, but just FYI.
This is what makes the YS1 a great accelerating tranny(along with the LSD y0!!1111!!1)
I hope my findings help out some others who are in the same position as I am. Yippee.

Steve has no y1 trannies; let alone ones with lsd.
the y1 tranny is the shortest geared bseries cable tranny period. (USDM or JDM)
Its almost the shortest geared bseries tranny cable or hydro. (specs on bseries.net)
As of right now Im having a hard time rebuilding my current y1 w/lsd. You cant find gears. I guess you can get dseries syncros and bearnings; but so far that is just a rumor; I guess Newman has some knowledge about this subject but I havent contacted him yet.
Hopefully Ill find out what parts we can use to rebuild these JDM cable trannies. I highly doubt people would sell them for 600-800 bucks a peice and they wouldnt be reusable. Doesnt make sense.

I hope you mean the XSi/GSR YS1, cause the Y1 has pretty wide gears. It even has an LS final drive, but it's still a solid tranny...
