Default Oil leak on timing belt side of the block

Edit: Problem fixed with a new head gasket.

Coming from this area of my block. Rebuilt the motor not to long ago, used a new headgasket and its been leaking oil ever since. At first I thought it was because I used a "new"(used) head and I thought it might be warped...so I put my old head back on, but it still leaks. Seems to be an oil feed in the block that just stops there, so Im assuming its caused by a bad headgasket???

I'm having the same problem. Oil leaks down the front side of the block and down the AC bracket. I can't seem to find exactly where it's coming from, but I'm losing quite a bit of oil. BUMP to see if anyone else has had this same problem and figured out how to fix it. By the way, I have a B18A block with a B16A2 head (LsVtec).

The 96 head I first put on was checked for straightness and came back ok, so I dont think thats my problem. Originally, with the 96 head, I was leaking a ton of oil, but now that im back to my 95 head its a very slight leak. The funny thing is after I put the 95 head on I drove about a 1000 miles without any leaking or very very little and now in the past 400 miles I leaked about a quart.

Cam seal. Or, the valve cover gasket, did you a get new one or did you reuse the old one?

check to see if your headgasket is on upside down
if it was, then its no good now

you should see the part number stamped on the exhaust side, closest to the transmission...the part numbers stick out a bit

I've heard of major oil leaks due to the headgasket being on upside down. Check out the all motor fourm of the forced induction fourm, everyone in there tears motors apart and has small problems like this.

It is a possibility it might be the cam seals...else did you use hondabond as a precaution when you reinstalled your gasket?

Small possibility it may be that your valve cover is not tight enough, leaky valve cover gasket, or your spark plugs are not tight enough.

Well I ordered a new head gasket yesterday, mainly because thats the only thing it could really be. Yes I did install it backwards(like a dumbass) the first time, but thats causes a huge oil leak and apparently screwed my gasket up...or so I hope. I used hondabond and torque my valve cover(and every other bolt on the engine) to spec and its not leaking from that area, so I assure you thats not my personal problem. My head gasket will be here tomorrow so Ill let you know if that fixed it on thursday.

Your oil leak is coming from the cam seals that are located around
the camshafts. You have a cam plug that is located next to the distributor,
and when it leaks oil it pours down the block and the tranny. And you have
cam seals that are near the timing belt, and when it leaks oil it pours exactly
where you circled. - The timing belt needs to come off, and you need to remove
the main caps, and camshafts to replace them.

No Im pretty sure its not coming from there....I will double check today when I rip the motor back down, but I checked that last time and that entire side of the motor was completely dry. Also I put in new cam seals.

Sometimes if they are not installed properly on the camshafts, they will pop
right out. So just make 100% sure that it's not leaking from there!

Yea, sorry they were in there tight when I ripped it apart. Finally got my new head gasket it and everything back together....still waiting to take it out for a spin.

How many times must I say the cam seals were brand new and were installed properly...checked the other day when I ripped the motor apart and they were still in place and there was no oil on that entire side of the block/head. Replaced my head gasket and doesnt seem to be leaking anymore.

cam seal...use a new one and use honda bond or kragen bond....around the seals and the corners of the valve cover gasket to enhance adhesion....

Sounds like a cam seal to me too. I still cant figure out why my headgasket was leaking where it was...it was an oil return, so its not like the oil was pressurized and needed a good seal.
