Paisley Passing the Scales
This is from an interview with Craig on nhrasportcompact.com
Im putting this up cuz there was a discussion about what happened that weekend dealing with craig passing the scales after he beat george
Q: After knocking off George Ioannou in the first round at Atco, why did you pass the scales and disqualify yourself?
Paisley: We race on our own dime from a small shop that we run in New York working on import cars and we don't have a major sponsor that helps with our bills so we will only attend some of the NHRA events this year. What that means to me is that we are not in a position to win an NHRA world championship. Ara (Arslanian), George (Ioannou), Louis (Aspras) and Bert (Gaertner) are like teammates with the way they welcome us into their pits and want to see us succeed, so I just did what any teammate would do and I let George move on. If it was Scranton's second car and someone needed to take a fall for the championship they would do the same thing. The only difference is that nobody expected me to do that and it really upset a lot of people.
My regret is that I let the fans down at Atco that day and I'm upset with myself for that because we would have probably won that day and it would have made a great story. I probably won't do that again. I know that the Titan team is really upset with me but what I did wasn't really aimed at them, but more a choice of my own to help out my friend. A lot of people that are in our class said that Ara paid me to do that, but these are people that just don't know me and they don't know Ara either because that's not what either of us are all about. If people that I race against want to think that I took a payout to do that they don't know me at all.

I dont think what he did was fucked up.. all these people are crying and moaning, but HES the one who blew a few grand racing HIS truck that weekend, so let him do whatever he wants to do with his car/money...

Exactly...I wouldn't have blown a few jeez like that. Maybe Big Dawg Ara hit him back @ the Strip Club or something.

Tis true Dave..
75% of the whiners dont even race, or have no idea how much it costs to campaign a PRwd car, so enough with the Finger pointing, allegations, he said- she said kiddie spunk, so Wipe your *ussy and stop whining..
If these guys werent racing, there wouldnt be any events to gossip about..

Could the titan team maybe be upset because it could hurt them in the end(in points standings) if the bullish racing team earned points that they should not of had? I don't know, but I think that's why. If I put myself in their footsteps, I would probably be upset too. I didn't hear about this till I saw this post. I think Paisley was just being a good guy, but he really didn't realize that anything bad could come out of it.

Hey guys, I talked with Cp that following Monday and he told me straight up that he wasn't doing it to **** Titan directly.
He said he talked to Nero that day and told him it wasn't against him or Titan personally.
Bullish and Paisley are somewhat linked (their all friends) and that was that. He also said he regretted what he did, but that's racing right?
I remember when I read that he had missed the scales and thought to myself WTF? But when he explained it to me I could understand where he was coming from.

That's correct, there are also the other 1% who got screwed on the transaction and are actively seeking a points race. It wasn't done intentionally and that's understandable, however that doesn't change what happened.

they would be in first in points and have a good chance of winning the series on their first year with this car. thats what the problem is with that race and the scales.
If you're just gonna do this crap, why not just set up some exhibition passes. CP said it himself, wasn't in it for the win, the money, the glory, the points.
He's well known and should have been able to set it up.

Understand this is not a whining match. I'ved moved on from this situation. Because there is nothing you can do other then step up your game and step up the racing program to win more races and chase this Pro RWD championship. That is the way Titan Motorsports works and we'll keep grinding away at this points chase however we can. Below are the rule/political/sponsor implications
I was there and I was actually very surprised as to what happened. So like any good racer I investigated. Titan and Craig are fine, there are no issues. The issues are as to what NHRA chooses to do. I'll publically discuss what happens here, as I know there are many up and coming racers on this forum and it effects everyone:
Sponsorship - This is what helps drive racing and everyone's program. Doesn't look good for the sport that you can give up a round. Sponsors will support a team that is working hard and doing well (ie Titan has had a great year so far, so it helps with sponsors to be in the points lead)
The Sport - the Pro RWD class is most mirrored against the Powerade Pro Stock class, they try new rules and procedures there that pass down to the rest of the classes. These issues are discussed in very informative driver meetings. This may not be a good result for the other classes.
Precedence - the issue sets a precedence, although its not my style or sportsmanship to ever ask a contender to bow down because I'm in a points chase, or someone who is not a direct team mate of mine this will set-up a precendence that says if a team goal can be negotiated or purchased then you can get a free round, not good for racing. Although I do not believe in any way that George, Ara or Craig had any financial deal from this incident. The precedence is still there for it to happen.
Points chase - what every championship contender goes for, if the race would have gone down as planned - it would be:
Brad (titan) 1st,
George -17
Ara -45 (he would've won the race most likely)
Scranton -67
The series would be a lot closer and there would be 1-3 rounds seperating each racer, this would mean that every race there could be a new points leader.
In summation I feel this will start a whole trend in Sport Compact that will take years to repair - you may have racers who don't need the points letting their friends win because there's a points chase, this makes the fans and the smaller teams even more an underdog to the guys with the big $ as well.

i do not agree with the members here that are expressing equal attitude as the one quoted here.
this is helping friends....
I will bring you guys back to either earlier this season or later last season of the Powerade series. There was a Pontiac funny car that was unsponsored and had just won the round... The car caught on fire for whichever reason after he finished the run... He was on the semifinals.... He thought that the damage was un-repairable... Him and his crew alone unsponsored could not fix the car in time....
*THIS IS WHAT HELPING A FRIEND OUT IS*
Crew chiefs and Technicians from all the other teams that were at the track came up to the guys pit and started to help out in repairing the car...... you saw the Budweiser guys right there wrenching away next to the army.com guys along with the other teams involved in this other unsponsored Teams pit.... they got the car fixed and he proceeded to the next round... if he won or not I do not remember .... BUT THAT MY FRIENDS IS WHAT HELPING FRIENDS OUT IS.
And also this is not just Craig’s problem it is a problem for many people...
Anyone trying to chase a championship.
NHRA because they loose credibility.
and most of all the fans, because they cant go to the track and be guaranteed that you wont see corruption and bullshit like this happening..
how pissed off would EVERY SINGLE one of you guys be if this would have been the last race of the season.. and TEAM GENERAL MOTORS WOULD HAVE PULLED A FAST ONE LIKE THIS ON GARRY GARDELLA???
this is a very serious problem and the sanctioning bodies can definitely do something about it... DISQUALIFY BOTH TEAMS WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS.

I think in that case the best thing he could have done to help out a friend was to not even pull up to race... I agree this in the end could affect more people than Craig thought about... but what is done is done... definately not the first time it has happened!
I understand team orders, being a fan of F1 and other series... but i have never been a fan of it... and even F1 outlawed blatent pull-over moves like Rubens Barrachello did for Schumacher a couple of years back... NHRA could do something about it... my plan would be that if a Racer loses on the track the only way he can move on to the next round if the on the track Winner Fails the weight or fuel check.... not if he doesn't take it... if he skips it altogether they both should be listed as the round losers...

I would just like to say one thing. The import racing scene started as all of the top racers being friends. We have grown to know each otehr better and help out each other whenever it is possible. That is what I love about our import racing. Doesn't matter who we are racing against its all of our friends. We don't hate each other. Most of the times after a race you will see us all go out for drinks, a club, food whatever it may be. Some of us may have better relationships with other racers and we help each other out.
I personally know Paisley and I wouldn't think he took any money to let them by.
I know everyone is making a big issue out of this, but if I am not mistaken Paisley wasn't the first guy to do this in Import Drag Racing or in the NHRA as a matter of fact. We did it at the Finals in Pomona in 2001. Guess who we were racing yup Paisley. We beat Paisley in the first round. Knocking him out of the first place Championship spot against Carlos. We decided we are not in the points chase wanted to help a good buddy out so we bypassed the scales and Paisley won the round. Some might have been mad at us, but hey we were helping out a friend. He later did however lose and Carlos still got the First place spot anyway.
But my big thing is no one has ever brought that up or complained about it when we did it.

i mean yeahh thats cool, lets not pass the scales but we still make a pass exposing our sponsors to the croud and then we also let them see us winning.. and then we hand over wins like its just nothing... and its just helping someone out??? its not helping someone out if you are affecting someone else.. if bullish's car wasnt fast enough to win or if George couldnt drive the car good enough that round to win... and he lost ... then he does not deserve to proceede to the next round.. thats what FAIR RACING IS.
