the only way you can tell by just looking at it is by the size of the splines where the axles go into the transmission - they are larger diameter on the ZC - ZC is the only L3 transmission using the larger axles

well i got a ZC trany and i had to run the 90-93 axles with the j-shaft but it is a L3 trany. and if it is a true ZC trany you will have to use the j-shaft there are no axles that will fit the d/s out put on the trany without the j-shaft unlike the crx/civic L3 trany you run a long shafts. but i must say the ZC trany is hard to get use to running 4-4500rpm@75-80mph in 5th and when this trany goes out i will most likely get the same no matter the price the 3rd gear is just unbelievable running 60mph and dumping it until just before 8000rpm hitting 95-105mph in no time going from the D15b non-vtec with a si L3 trany to what i have now if this is the jap si set up then we as the US got the shaft everyone else was having fun
oh well i got it now and loving every min of it
