While I'm still doing alot of research on this subject, and since it's very rare as of now (I'm sure in a year it'll be old *** news) but for now it's the newest thing, or the newest "Bandwagon" but here the deal. I'm just looking into it, and posted this up to get some more info on the subject. I'm most likely going to do a ITR swap into my SI because of the cost, but it never hurts to look.
Here's a little breakdown I did for anyone who is interested or hasn't seen it. I'm sure im missing some things, so bare with me.
$4800-$6000 K20 Type R
$490 mounts Hasport from Hmotors (price with swap only, alone it is 600+)
$300+- Axles with cores
$350 Wire harness
$575 header + $50 mid pipe
$80 SS fuel line
$40 clutch lines
$120 rad brack
$160 fuel rail
$? RSX shifter box
$? Type R ECU reflash for EK
$? Radiator + hoses
Doing it yourself = FREE!!!!
This is what I came up with so far. I'm sure I'm missing alot, but you get the idea on the cost, as you can see the price of this swap is about 8K + with JUST the prices I've mentioned. The price can drop if you choose to get a K20a2 from an RSX but it's still pricey
Choice #2
I'm in search of some stock reliable power and the k20 would do that. But I could also do this, B18c5 in my Si. While it's no k20, It is a nice powerful reliable engine with room for improvment if I do choose to do so. The swap would be a hellava lot cheaper (note the Engine costs are close, but to actually put it in your car, the k20 would be about 4K more for me to do so than the C5)
Swap costs:
$4500 + $400 B18c5 (full swap) + shipping from Hmotors
$300 hasport mounts (from hmotors, price only if bought with swap)
And that's IT!!!!!!! $5500 to swap it in my car.
Since I already have a b16a2 in my current car, all I need to do is swap whever parts I get from Hmotors and my current parts in my car that I wouldn't need to upgrade. Now additional costs would be a good header-exhaust setup.
$900 Toda Header
$250 High Flow Cat
$500 Tanabe Exhaust
$300 J's Racing ***** Intake (I love that damn thing)
Price is around 7K, but you must realize that I didn't list all the parts needed for the k20 swap. It would prolly add up to be around 10K
And thats around 190-195 whp right there. I think I could live with that. forgive me if this has been posted out before. I just wanted to get a clear view of what I'm going to be doing.
If you actually read through all of this, please voice your opinion and thanks for taking a look

i love my c5 but would love a little extra torque which is why i say go k20. if you can afford it then do it, if not then stay simple and get the c5. they are great and very reliable. either way your car will be very fast and fun to drive.
misha
misha
why would you do that, 10 grand. Man, if i was going to drop that sorta of cash into a honda, it would have to be a nsx. just buy a bimmer or sti or something, omg.

I don't know what to do really.... just to save myself some time and money, I might just swap in the B18C5. I know I won't be dissapointed.
I wish I could afford a bling bling STI.. but who can? not me... I'm still in college
I can easily sell my b16a2 with 36K on it for a good chunk of change, so im not worried about the cost of a b18c5 or k20

you said it would cost you 10 grand for your swap/setup. sell your car for like 12 or more and then put that 10 g's and the 12+ as a downpayment on an STI or something fast from the factory.
I like the EVO myself. Looks better and has more handling potential. Just my .02.
If you don't mind the extra money, definitely go with the K20. The extra torque is good for the heavy(for a civic) EK Si and the power potential is killer. Go with the C5 if the K20 will require ALL of your savings account though. Being broke sucks.

I think you are misinformed... Yes, there are people asking $6500 for it but you should have no problem finding one for $5200 shipped. If you could drive to Canada and pick it up yourself, you can pay around 6000 canadian which is around $4800..... for a complete swap....
Also what about the K20A2 option? With the toda kit, that is one powerfull motor. People are buying k20a2 for $3000.
IMO, your cost estimates are a little bit high. Also, do not forget that whenever the k series swaps will become THE thing, instead of the next BIG thing, the b18c5 swaps will not hold their value.... (Again IMO) The h22a swaps will not be threatened but whoever is paying 5k for a c5 swap today, will not be able to see that money back unless they try to sell it to someone outside the "scene"
Don;t forget the K24A route. The engine is in all the latest model accords, crv and element 4 cylinder cars.. The price for a k24a longblock is $800-$1000. Add a 5 speed EP3 tranny and you can do this really cheap...
Again, that is my opinion

Good point. I agree, I just sold my K20A2 swap for a little over $3000 including shifter assembly.
This swap is becomeing more popular and more people are figureing out easier and faster ways to install it.

well I posted this up before I checked on prices of swaps. I think I'm going to go with the k20a2 swap. It puts out more horsepower than the b18c5, and kills it in torque. plus I can add the Type R cams and Intake manifold and It would be pretty close to the k20a swap. minus the LSD of course.
On another note. I heard there was a actual swap how to guide (step by step) that K20eg made, is this true? I haven't been able to find it.
I'm pretty set on getting this swap. I'm just figuring out the how to's and don'ts before i dive in

Drop in the a k series engine. If you drop in a b18c it will be about 5 minutes before you start upgrading that thing. PLEASE dont get me wrong the b18c is one helluva engine but once you try to get 200 plus whp it will start becoming quite expensive...with still no torque in comparision to the k series.
silverb18 mentioned an STi instead of the k series...which would be great if you actually liked the STi. Ive been in and around Hondas for 18 years and for me its just a platform I prefer. Im also involved in a ongoing Ford and Chevy project...not as fun to build imo though.
Any of the Honda engines you chose will make good power but in the end the k-series will be the top dog period. Everyone has their limits on how much they want to spend on a build either what they can afford or simply how much they're willing to spend. But in reality all high horsepower/reliable engines cost mucho flow.
If your on the fence (which you are) wait 6 months and see which direction things are going in. So much more info I believe will be out to make up your mind.
Good Luck!

I have heard from many reliable people that B series motors are stronger both NA and FI than K series. K series has problems throwing rods through the back of the block even mildly modded. Anyways, why would K series swaps become the thing. Just as B series motors are becomming more rare, there is a **** load of them. I personally don't see the point of putting a new tech, K series motor into a older civic, especially something like a 92-95 hatch. To me, swapping K series should stick with EP cars. There are so many good cars that are going to be comming out in the next coupe of years in the import scene as well as the domestic sport compact scene, it's silly to spend so much on a K series swap. That's just my opinion. When people are making over 500 hp on b and d series motors, what is the point of swapping a K series motor in an b/d series car?

I like how cable shifting works. but if you mess with them to much they snap... my buddies cables snapped in his SE-R when he installed a short shifter
Ok, so is it supposed to sit that high in the EK? is there a way to make it sit lower? wish there was a how to
