Default Weird noise when starting in 1st??

I have a 2001 5spd base model. When I'm engaging the clutch in 1st gear it makes this weird noise, like metal rubbing against metal. It only happens sometimes and mostly when I'm on a hill. It just started hapening the past week. Do any of you guys know what this might be?

my first guess would also tell me throwout bearing. But try changing out your fluid and look around in there, it can tell you alot about what's going on inside your tranny (same with looking at your oil, <--can tell you alot about what's goin on inside the motor).

couldn't have put it any better. buy 3 quarts of honda MTF and flush out your tranny. inspect your old fluid for anything like metal chunks, clogging fluids, etc..anything that doesn't look right basically. if that check out fine, then i would say check your throwout bearing and clutch fluid.

Any luck w/the problems? My girls car is doing this too, it usually only happens when 1st gear or reverse is engaged after starting the car. just as the clutch pedal is almost all the way out, i hear an almost moaning sound. i'm gonna drain and inspect the tranny and take it from there, thanks in advance

I'm almost 100% sure it's the throwout bearing. I'm getting the same noise on my 01 SE even after I flushed the MTF.

Alright, thanks man. I definantly appreciate the quick response.

Any reason it would really only happen once, the 1st time the car is engaged in gear, but not again after that until the car has been parked? I would think it would be a little more consistant (like at every stoplight etc)
