PAY NO TAXES!!!!!
Thats right...stated on the local news. No one in the USA will have to pay taxes on any purchases from Nov 23-Dec 3. This includes automobile purchases, house....ANYTHING. The Government is going to subsidize the taxes. GET YOUR CHRISTMAS LIST READY!!!

Positive!!! The economy is so bad that the Gov. is trying to do anything to get the consumer to buy! Save your pennies!
I'm not buying this. There is no such thing as a Fedral sales tax. All sales taxes in the U.S. are at the state and local levels. The fedral government has no power or authority to simply say "don't pay taxes..."
Edit: okay, I just re-read the original post. I missed the whole subsidize thing, maybe the feds will just be billed by the states - but wait, where they hell is the money for that subsidy coming from.... ?

I am very skeptical about this. It takes a massive effort by both house/congress, state gov'ts to pull something like this. And besides, nothing on CNN or other newssites. Pleeeaaaase prove me WRONG.
I think you guys are right....I have been searching too to find proof for you guys and I am not finding anything. I think the local news didn't get their info right. I am going to call my local station to get confirmation. SORRY FOR THE SHORT LIVED EXCITEMENT!!

It was probably ONLY your local Kmart offering NO tax for those dates.

Actually R-Adrenaline is half right. It's not definite yet. It's a proposal by a few senators for a 10 day "tax-holiday" after thanksgiving. You can read more about it at http://www.msnbc.com/news/651484.asp I know a few people waiting for this for a few large purchases. I wish I had the extra funds if the proposal actually makes it through and happens. Oh well...maybe you guys will get lucky with this and get a few nice buys in.
There are also a few other articles on MSNBC's site. Just to a search for "tax break" or "tax holiday" Laters...

OK guys...here is what I found out from our local news reporter. This was mentioned on CNN but only as an option that the Gov. is throwing around to help boost the economy. So.....this may still happen and then again, it may not. We will have to wait and see. Keep an eye on CNN and your local news to see if this will come to fruition. Keep your fingers crossed!!
I don't know if what happens in my area is a Texas (state wide) thing or a Houston (city wide) thing or what....but I know that every year we have one day that is a tax holiday.
