1984 Honda Nighthawk 700s
my father just picked one up and then decided to get a harley project instead so he wants me to buy it. its got about 21000 miles and runs strong as hell. im comparing this to my old Yamaha fzr 600cc. the bike pulled much harder than my fzr.
anyways i was just wondering if any of you have one or have riden the ol' nighthawk. i'm an experienced rider just looking for an inexpensive bike to play with this summer. i would like to buy a new bike, but thats not an option right now. i guess once the summer is over i could sell the bike to get some $$$$ back, but its in really good condition so im not sure about that yet.
so anyone got one? just want to know some of the quirks of the nighthawk. google doesn't really have too much out there on the nighthawk.

dear ol' dad wants way too much... he got had when he bought it...so im not going to pick it up until the winter when he decides he really doesn't want that in his garage. then i can talk him WAY down ... lol.
700? not 750? That must have been the year the US imposed a trade embargo against Japan on bikes over 700cc... to protect HD. I bet the speedo only goes to 85mph too. See what happends when politicians get involved in things. 750's turn into 700's, 120mph speedos turn into 85mph speedos. And the world is safer for it. Lolz.
I love the way that bike looks. Mean, and ugly
Enjoy.

I ended up with 3.5 84-86 Nighthawks after working at a cycle salvage shop for a while. I've just always loved the model and they compliment my 87 Interceptors very well.
Stay on top of the oil changes, run it dirty or low and they will throw rods. Then again that's about the only complaint I've ever heard about the model. Part's are fairly plentiful and you'll see them fairly often on CraigsList or Ebay or cycletrader.com
Resale value is fairly low unless the bike is real pristine so it is possible to keep them running on a budget.

I have a 85 nighthawk 650sc and its a great learner bike. I bought it from some grad student at GT and once I fixed the electrical problems its been running strong.
I had an '83 CB650 Custom for about a month back in the summer of '96. It was OK, except a previous owner had put on a different exhaust, and didn't rejet. So when you wanted full throttle the bike would bog out. I took off the airfilter and the bike ran great! I traded it in on a '93 Suzuki VX800.
I own a 84 700s nighthawk, and other than replacing the front fork seals the bike has been perfect. I've heard that the 84 models can develp an oil leak from the crank case but that hasn't happened to me. I've owned the bike for a year and have put 5500 miles on it (odometer now reads 15500). I have a feeling this bike is going to run for me for along time.

I think the 700 is the "Sport" model and is actually faster and lighter than the 750.
