Default JDM B18C w/ LSD - What gear oil to use?

First off, I drive a Subaru, the civic with the b18c is owned by a buddy of mine.
he has no net access, so i told him i'd find out what gear oil he should use.
manuals, and what he's used before is regular motor oil. I thought this odd, but the books do state this.
now with his jdm b18c having a limited slip, the gear oil requirements may change.

IF the lsd is sealed off, then no special oils are required, and the same used on a non lds can be used.

If not sealed off, special additives may be required in order for the lsd to operate correctly.

What weight of gear oil should be used, and is anything special needed for lsd operation?
