Default inconsistency with fuel gauge

the fuel gauge in my 93 si is havin some weird fuel gauge probs. for the 1st hundred or so miles, ill have good *** mileage, like itll barely be where the full like ends but then after 100 then it drops each time i start and turn off or even as im driving then by around 120-30 its at about half way. i was wondering if the fuel tank is shaped funny or what? i searched and read that the sensor moves around when turns are made and drops after WOT ive already noticed that, but is this also normal with the rest of you guys? any help would be great. thanks

its a problem with a lot of hondas ive driven. on my mom's odessey, you can go 200mi on the 1st 1/4 tank, then only 100mi on the last 3/4. my civic gauge is similar. it drops really slowly at 1st, then drops way faster. if im hard on the accelerator, it dips considerably, but goes back up later.

It's due to the way the resistors in the sender are claibrated with the computer, along with the location and mounting of the 'float' in the tank. The float will be at the top of the tank when full, and you have to go through a bit of gas before the bouyancy of the float allows it to go down; so it will seem like the first bit of driving you're not going through any gas at all.

Check http://www.howstuffworks.com they have a good write up on how gas guages work, and why they're inconsistant sometimes.

You're complaining about $1.85???

I use 92 and it was $2.55 yesterday. I'm sure it's higher then that today.
For 87 it's $2.35 i think.
I wish gas was $1.85. I didn't mind that price.

yeah cause less than a year ago it was $1.25 and less, and its only going up, so yes im complaining. its all relative to what youve been used to paying.....
but compared to what ive seen out there, im happy its not higher, it will be though.

I get that on my 94 cx hatch. The needle will go up and down constantly on the freeway. When i fill up and drive 100 miles the needle doesnt even go down past the full line on the fuel guage. I just use the trip meter to know exactly where im at on fuel.

Ok reg. unleaded was about $139 a gallon last summer, rite now it's $239 + per gallon and still rising. thats for arco gas, got to chevron (where I go) it's up to about $247 per gallon. Hopefully I'l be selling my dodge soon, so I'll only be paying $269 per gallon but i'll get 24mpg vs the 18mph I get w/my truck
