190whp all motor... Slicks or Drag Radials?
Hi I'm wondering if a car weighed about 2400lbs with driver and the motor is pushing 190whp & 130ft/lb torque @ wheels... is it best to use slicks or drag radials?
I remember when I had an LS motor w/ GSR tran in my 93 Si Hatch weighing 2400lbs w/ me... Got 14.9 @ 93mph using the factory 99 HX wheels/tire setup with 2.3 60ft... And then I threw the NT555 Drag tires on 14" steels... Cut the time in half 14.43 @ 93mph with a 2.1 60ft...
Later on I put the GSR head on... never ran a street time personally but my brother who is fairly decent driver got 14.4 @ 98mph 2.3 60ft with those same tires above... And this is where I doubt the slicks because I wanted to throw drag radials on but we went on ahead with the 15" mickey thompson slicks (24inch version? i think so)..... got a 14.1 @ 95mph with a 2.0 60ft... and that got me scratching my head because I swear with the drag radials we probably could had pulled about the same time or better... I'm guessing we'd get a 2.1 60ft and so far it seems if we have fairly same overall wheel diameter that'd take a good .4 off the ET with fairly same mph like 97-98... I did run the car in another race and got 13.96 @ 95mph with 1.9 60ft on the slicks... but I truly believe it's more impressive pulling a 14.1 or 14.0 with street tires (drag radials
)
Oh and by the way the 190whp 130ft/lb wasnt my motor... it's a friend who has an si like mine... and im just trying to convince him to use drag radials instead of slicks...
Well I hope someone read this and has an answer
Thanks for your time...

considering the fact that you'd dip into the 12's with slicks.......i'd say use slicks.
