Intake preference for B16A EF's?
im currently running an AEM on my b16... and am contemplating swapping with a friend for a 3" shorty.
reason being is the AEM looks hella small for the b16 at 2.5"
im also running a larger TB (68mm intake 62mm exit, 9 degree taper)
i've heard i'll lose a bit of bottom end, wich doesnt really bother me if im gainging it back in the top end.
any B16A EF owners here have experience with both??
if it matters i plan on running '01 R cams next season
any input would kick ***

Supposedly the 2.75in 2000 Civic Si AEM intake it the proper one to use on a b16. A reputable guy on the crx resource tried it and said it made a big difference.
You have to do something about the battery, though. He got some tiny optima battery, or something like that.

yes that is true, but the only thing is, minor thing, you either have to lower the battery tray or put the battery in the trunk. But have that setup and we look at the 99-00 Si intake and it will work perfect.
i've only heard of people relocating the battery, but i never thought of lowering the batttery tray, have you seen anyone do this, i'd rather do this than put it in the back. i'm wondering if their is clearance problems at all. if you know someone who did that let me know
How can you lower the battery? The distributor it too close to the frame rail, and the trans is just under the tray...
Mine's in the trunk.

use a smaller tractor type battery...the car runs off the alt anyways onces its started......Unless youre in a cold climate where its hard to start a car then this should work...

I'm running a cheapo 3" short ram type intake with custom cold air ducting. (scoop under front bumper) The battery is relocated in the rear, this was all done by the previous owner.
how do you find the power delivery?
btw do u have icq?
always nice to have another B16 crx owner from BC on my list

Can't really say how the power delivery is since this is my first encounter with VTEC. For what it's worth, when VTEC kicks in, I can slam myself back into my seat easily at WOT all the way down to 8k rpm. Below VTEC, it feels just like any other HONDA at low revs...not sure if that helped.
Yeah, I do have ICQ, but I don't use it much. PM me with your ICQ, we can talk after.

THis weekend I bought a 99-00 Si AEM intake and it fits just fine, didn't have to move the battery to the truck, just bent the end of the tray so there ws no more lip and extended the tray to the front of the car so the battery sitsa closer to the front of the car. It works beautifully, a little bit more torque on launch aswell. Nevermind about dropping the tray down, you would have to cut it in half them use a smaller cell battery, like a tractor one, to much work. THe 99-00Si one is also the same bore size as the throttlebody inlet, so it works great.
would u guys say that a 99-00 SI CAI would work for my b18c w/ skunk2 intake manifold in my crx...i have asked this question before and i think thats what someone said i shoudl do...anyone have this setup?
don't know, wait your using the skunk2 for the b18c or for the ITR? The reason i ask is due to the location of the throttlebody, I think the t/b sits lower with the b18c due to the secondary butterflies kind of tunr the manifold the other way of the itr and stock b16a manifolds. I have the skunk2 for my b16a and it works nicely, no modifcation except the battery tray.
the manifold from skunk2 that im using is a basically a copy of the type r manifold...it there for eliminates the secondary butterflies...

damn that means i hafta buy another AEM...
Yeah the bigger intake will fit and all but i did have to widen the hole where the filter sits behind the bumper. Nothing a pair of tin sheers can't handle. Only cut enough to get the pipe though, then you can use a self tappiong metal screw and then you can actually use that mounting bushing that comes with it. Tap it into the frame rail and then take that out and the mount bushings will pull nice and tight. Good luck
