Default What's up with my Bose Sytem?

Just bought a 93 Accord SE. I replaced my rear 6x9's with Alpines since the factory ones sounded like crap. The new speakers don't produce hardly any sound at all. I thought they were not working at all, but at normal volume in my car, I have to put my ear right up to the speakers to hear anything. I really don't know if the original speakers were doing the same thing, I replaced them two days after buying the car. Is it possible the amp is burnt out, and it is just sending a nominal signal through? Are there two amps - one in front one in back? The front speakers are very loud (still sound like crap though).

Double check wiring...positive and negitive from and to the amp, check rca's both from the source and on the amp. Check back if nothing still.

Amp is factory Bose, not aftermarket. All I did was replace speakers.

Factory bose systems are usually using funky ohm rating. I would suggest removing all of the factory amps an replacing the speaker wiring. If you can run it off deck power I would. That is my suggestion. Bose amps don't like non bose speakers.

Cool, thanks guys. I guess I'm just going to have to bypass my amp and run the wires straight to the HU. I just picked up an Eclipse 8443 receiver, man is that thing nice. Anyone have any info on the wiring schematics on these amps (stock Bose)? There are no unusual wires coming out of the stock HU, so I assume this amp used line level inputs.

Im guessing that all speakers are ran off of that Bose amp...so you will probably have to run new speaker wires from the new Eclipse to the new speakers. Just disconnect all wires from the amp and add the new wire harness to the factory one and you should be all geeeezer

In case anyone else is curious about why the speakers don't work, here is the answer. These Bose speakers run at 1 ohm. So, when you hook up normal speakers, you lose power by four times.

Bose basically works like this. Keep it all Bose or replace EVERYTHING to aftermarket equipment.
