okay, this is my second eg and to tell you the truth, as easy as it sounds, its really not when you dont want to break any clips. so i want to take out my cluster, how do i take off the black plastic piece that covers the vents and what not the right way? this is the piece that needs to be taken out in order to gain access to the cluster. i already tried taking it out and the damn thing doesn't want to come out and i already scratched it a few times maybe some diagrams to what you did and what tools you used. also if you could point out what page it is on the online helms, that would work too as i have 56gay.

 

it's kinda hard to not break a clip or 2...just b careful and b on the look out for the clips!!!

 

Get two putty knives for the bottom and two small flathead screwdrivers for the sides and corners. Be sure to remove hte screw behind the hazard button also, and then using hte aforementioned items slowly work the bezel out. It gets stuborn around hte vents, but as long as you don't rip it out, it shouldn't break.

 

hahahah I've taken out my cluster probably 3 times now, and broke a clip each time. I hate those things.

 

I took out gauge clusters like 10 times already. You just got to make sure you removed every screw and go slowly if it won't pop out try to pry it out carefully.

 

is there a screw behind the clock too? how'd you guys take out the hazard button and clock, there is no space to put a small flathead in and pry it out this is such bs man, its never been taken out so it's stubbon as ****

I used a screwdriver for glasses, very small, but you should be able to work the sharp edge of a knife under it. And there are three screws holding the closk to the bezel, ubt none behind it that hold the bezel to the dash.

i used a very small flathead one the left side of the hazzard switch and it works like a charm, i have probably taken my gauge cluster out of this car i have right now probably around 10 times and i dont break any of the clips ijust lift it up right where the clips are and pull slowly.

 

There are only three screws, two on the top in front of the cluster and one behind the hazard switch...

I don't know how you guys are breaking your clips?

I've taken the cluster out of my car and other eg's many times and never broken one.
