Pushing the rods down means nothing. Are they leaking fluid? Or is there just some grease on the rods? If they leak then there is something wrong but othewise run them till they blow. You will know when they blow because the car will ride like crap.

It is not abnormal to have a trace of oil on the chrome shock rods as the seals and guide bushings that run over the rod need to be lubricated or otehrwise they will wear prematurely.

What I usually tell people is that a little moisture is okay but runs or drips is not. If you are concerned, wipe the moisture off with a rag or paper towel and see how long it takes for it to return and how much continues to come out. Trace evidence on the rod or top of the body is not a bad thing but runs, drips and puddles show a problem.
