Default odd fix for squealing brakes

Recently my brakes have been squealing, and I was surprised at how I cured the issue (for now at least). I was finally getting around to putting on what's left of last season's summer tires, so I thought I'd take a look at the rear brakes and see about killing the noise. I checked the pads and there was plenty left. I looked at the shims and they looked fine... they weren't scraping the rotor or anything. there still seemed to be goop on the back of the pads too.

I was befuddled. confounded, even. where was this noise coming from? I noticed the dust shields. there sure is a lot of dust shielding arond the rear rotors on the 90 Si. I figured maybe they were resonating and screaming. So I took some rubber undercoating spray and gooped them up to try and dampen the any vibrations they were recieving. I took a spin and voila, no more squeal.

not a terribly exciting story, but I thought I'd share it for anyone who was having noisy brake problems that anti-squeal goop alone wasn't fixing.

Is that goop the kind that dries? If it isn't, make sure that goop doesn't get on the rotors/pads.

yeah, it's the kind of stuff that dries and leaves the lumpy rubberized coating. I figure the dust shields don't get much heat, so it should be alright

and yeah, I thought of just spraying everythingm but man, imagine the smell :D
