AC Compressor clutch/pulley is noisy. Anyone had this prob? Easy fix?
I guess any color would be great. I was told today by my mechanic that it will be like $250 just for these parts on my 95 gsr from Acura because they are sold as a bundle. then he wants like another $150 to put them in.
Anyone know where I could snag these used? Can i put it on myself>>?
Is there any risk just letting it be noisy?
Thanks.

I assume you need a clutch and stator (maybe)? You don't really want to install a used clutch set, the clutch is basically a pulley with a bearing. You may or may not need a stator (coil). I often see bad clutches that rub against the stator and cause damage. I don't think you can get these in an underdrive configuration (AEM)

Just make sure it is the A/C clutch that is noisy and not the A/C Compressor..
If the A/C is operating correctly then it probably isn't the compressor, refrigerant in the compressor contains PAG oil that lubricates the internal compressor parts preventing mechanical noise..
Just for the heck of it, try spraying the A/C clutch assembly with some lube.. lots of it, while turning the A/C on and off (if the A/C operates at all)

I have the same problem, and I only get it when my car is cold. However, it looks like the AC pully is a pain to get to...
Ein, thats how mine started, although now it just is plain noisy All the time.
My AC works, and my mechanic said that its not the compressor, so I guess i have to buy these parts from Acura as a bundle ($$$) and swallow. or, continue to live with the noise, as i have been, for about 2 years now.
thanks

Maybe ah motor has it cheaper (www.ahmotor.com). Damn 250 is alot to replace that damn compressor clutch. I mean it's the only thing it really could be for me, since my belts and tensioner were replaced a year and half ago.
I check in the service manual and it seems you can shim it so that the gap between the clutch isn't as big. Any thoughts on that?

Shimming it just changes clutch clearance, It is the bearing in the clutch pulley that makes noise 95% of the time. Usually you can rmove the compressor with the lines still hooked up and change it that way. You'll need a set of feeler guages to set the clutch clearance. It's not that big of a job.

Fixhondas,
Thanks for your imput, its great to have knowledgeable people like you on these boards!
Anyway, in your opinion, "not that big of a job" means? = $$$
$150 in labor? $100 in labor?
Thanks.

Mechanics usually charge at minimum 50 an hour for a job, to sometimes 80 an hour. So that comes out to be about a 2-3 hour job, which really isn't all that big a job. Plus they overcharge on the hours too according to how much of a pain the job is.
Sorry to bring this thread to life, but could someone describe the loud noise?
Is it similar to a metal rattling?
TIA
