I have a '94 ex and I have done a few mods but i need more power so I think it is time for an engine swap!!! What are my options??? Any adivice would be helpful, thanks.

 

Your best options would be a used JDM H22A, USDM H22A1 or H22A4.

what's the difference between usdm h22a1 and h22a4?

 

These are all 2.2 liter DOHC VTEC motors from Preludes. They make ~200 HP, ~150 ft-lbs of torque and spin to 7,700 RPM.

H22A1 = 4g Prelude, OBD I, closed deck.
H22A4 = 5g Prelude, OBD II, open deck (has different ECU, distributor, and fuel injectors).
The H22A4 is rated at 5 HP more (200 vs 195) only due to a revised exhaust manifold.
OBD II has such tight emissions controls that they resist gains mods are supposed to make. You can convert H22A4 to OBD I, but you need to get a hard-to-find ECU, distributor and fuel injectors to do it.

 

i found one online. it said H22 Si-R. what do u know about this engine or is it one of the ones u listed below??? Thanks for all the help!!!!

Hmmm I dunno what they mean. The Accord SiR had an F20B not a H22A.
Anyways they probably mean a JDM H22A.

 

ok i got it, but what is the difference between jdm h22a and usdm h22a1 and h22a4 other than one is from japan and the others the states. will they all fit the same, does on have more power or torque, and i kinda got what u were sayin' about the odb I and II but u have a h22a4 with a odb I what does ODB means and what is the difference between the open and closed decks and which one will nottake mods as nicely??? The motors and their transmissions all have minor differences, but you could still write a book about the differences.
Sport Compact Car did an article about putting a H22A into a Civic a few months ago. That article explains the differences of the H motors. Do you have that magazine?

Problem is, the 4g Prelude VTEC never came with an automatic. I guess there's a JDM H22A VTEC auto ECU you could use.

JE-SUS that is a nice engine. Apparently it's a JDM H22A automatic with LSD. It looks to be in mint condition. I didn't see a price, but can't believe it's only 2Gs, unless they're having trouble selling an auto...

i didn't realize that you had to get a different engine for automatics. cuz my accord is an automatic, and what i had planned on doing is, when i get my engine swap getting an h22a4..and then later on converting it to manual. can i do that?

 

You can definitely do that I know that Se93 & Sloaccord on the HS board did this with their swaps. Also check out sloaccords site at http://www.h22a.org.
