Can anyone give some insight on this aluminum jack?
I did some searches for aluminum jacks and looks like many people use either Harbor Freight (backordered still?) or Craftsman
I found a 24lb AL jack
2 7/8" pad height
15" max lift height
lifting 3000lbs
off Ebay but it doesn't seem to have any name or brand attached to it.
I'm not sure if I should take the risk of buying this jack (primarily garage work, little/some track).
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AIT
On the other hand, a local shop can get me a jack made by PROFORM for ~$75 more & weighs ~38lbs.
Anyone heard of Proform & can comment?

Sam's Club also has them...they have some goofy graphics on them, but appear to be the same as the Harbor Freight ones.
Appears to be identical to the cheaper one sold by HF... I'm using the $130 variety available at HF, bigger load capacity, quick-pump, and higher lift height.
i can tell the shipping box is pretty much the same as the HF one i got, which means its coming from the same factory. they say they made custom order for a lower min height, so i guess they sacrificed the max height, which i really like that my HF jack gets higher than anything else.
Love my Craftsman. Built better than the $130 HF jack. Raises to 17 3/4".
It was pricey ($180) but I'm betting I'll see the return on it.

awesome, thanks for the replies guys
Wasn't sure if these were the same as HF jacks
I'm not doing any heavy duty work on my car in the garage but if/when that time comes and I need a better jack, I'll prbly go with an AC jack

The next time someone wants to whine about the popularity of NASCAR Cup the street tuner import craze, think about how we have to suffer through the decision about WHICH anodized aluminum jack to buy. The factories are sure as hell not jigging up to build these things for NASA and SCCA members...

Yes, this is the same as the smaller HF jack. I just got mine a couple weeks ago and it came in the same black box that you can see in the picture stacked below the table the jacks are on.
Inital impression of the jack. I like it very much as a jack to take to autocross events where the purpose is basically limited to changing tires. It is very light (something Jen can handle no problem). Jacks the car up quickly without having to apply extreme pressure on the handle (another necessity with Jen in mind being how light she is). However, I would not want this to be my only jack. The reason for this the the limited height that it extends to. For working on the car, this jack does not provide a sufficient height to work under the car. So, if you are looking for a jack to change tires, this is very good choice, however, make sure you have another at home when you need to work on the car.

...but you don't think that there are a lot of NASCAR fans who have decided that they need an aluminum jack "just like" Chocolate Myers or one of those guys uses?

I just purchased the Torin Al racing jack from pep boys. It is on sale for 129 and i had a credit from brake pads for 80.00, net cost 49.00. it is fast pump, like 5 to full height, very light, single piston design. I love it.

Wrong!
The larger HF had no problems when I used it to lift the trailer up (fully loaded car on top)
