i'd give it a long thought on wether to start fixing it or not. like OEMedUP said it could escalate to more problems and get $$$.
so if you can swap in a b-series or an h22
but if you can't, get another single cam. maybe a 1.6L sohc vtec

I'd do another swap. maybe a d16z6 or d15b. but if you have enough, get a b-series.
you'll never know, redoing the seal etc might take work and end with more problems and $$$ that you should have used for a swap.

This guy just needs a little advice. Don't get the H22...it's too heavy. Are you looking to do anything with your car or do you just want to leave it stock. Just tell us what your needs are for your car because you obviously need a new engine, but certain people won't try to steer you wrong and spend all of your money on something you don't need.

Mr_Civic, you are about to have to drop some serious money into the motor of your car.. honestly, if you come get it I'll trade you for my oil burning B7. I don't drive my hatch much and I'm rebuilding another motor anyhow.

Well moron, you haven't made one comment in THIS post to help this guy. Don't contradict yourself.

:middle finger: What are you talking about he's going to have to drop some serious money??? The point is this; this guy is asking for help and all anybody is doing is telling to one of the bigger, more expensive engines which he DOES NOT need. It's very nice of you to offer your b7, which is all I think this guy needs anyway. There is also a complete d15b7 on ebay right now for $25, but I don't think I'd trust the seller.
And yes, the H22 is too heavy. Why start off with about 63% of you weight up front with the stock engine and then drop an H22 in and end up with about 70% of your weight up front?

Okay guys let's keep a would-be tech topic on topic please?

Okay first of all you need to start by getting your oil changed. That engine only takes 3.5 quarts of oil with a new filter. If you're reading your dipstick right then it sounds to me like someone did not drain the oil at your last oil change and then still added 4 more quarts or so.
Okay so after you get your oil changed you need to take the car home and let it cool off completely. After it's totally cool in the engine compartment you need to take some good degreaser (Simple Green in awesome) and soak the engine down in it and then take a scrub brush with a bucket of soapy water and scrub what you can off of the engine. Hose off all of the soap and degreaser.
Make sure you do NOT spray the distributor - it looks like this:

So after getting the engine clean you will now be able to determine what oil leaks you have.
Areas to look will be under the distributor (shown earlier), the valvecover gasket area, from the oil pan gasket on the bottom of the engine, from the rear main seal area which is where your engine and tranny mate together on the bottom side of the engine, and from the crank pulley area from the front main seal.
Any of these leaks should be easily detected from a REPUTABLE shop.
Depending on how many leaks you have and how bad the engine is leaking you might want to consider getting a different engine. Also if your engine is smoking BLUE/GREY smoke from the exhaust then I would definately look into another engine.
Some of those leaks are easy fixes that you can fix with minimal mechanical know-how. Some of them are serious jobs (like the rear main and front main seals) that require a lot of dissassembly and know-how.
Unitl your engine is at it's normal oil level and clean on the outside, it will be impossible to narrow your problems down.
Also:

Steam from the oil cap? Honestly that's not to uncommon because you have to figure that the temps inside the engine far exceed the ambient/outside temps when you open the cap.
Lastly you need to check and see if your oil looks like a milkshake mixture. If it does then you have a blown head gasket and you just need to buy a new engine and not spend any more money on an iffy D15B7.

alrightl, you tell me. what is he going to have to spend a fairly nice amount of money to get his stock motor back to running perfectly? he can seriously get another motor for that. I didn't tell him to upgrade.
the H22 being too heavy is a ******* opinion. according to your damn weight balance the stock motor is too heavy.. why don't we jsut put some bicycle pedals down instead of a motor, then we'll have that perfect weight dist.
my point is it can only be considered 'too heavy' depending on what the use is for and even then it's an opinion not common knowledge.

Thanks Tom, you've been the only one that has tried to help this guy out. All the rest of the guys are telling him to swap this and swap that, they've been bickering back and forth and haven't even really tried to help him. Thsi has gotten way off track. This guy obviously has limited funds and doesn't have the money to do a swap so he wants to make do with what he can afford. Now with all that being said, Mr Civic how many miles is on the engine and have you tried changing it lately? If you do have a blown head gasket like Tom said it will be like a chocolate milkshake color, slimy too. Also if you do have coolant mixing in with your oil does make sense as to why your oil level is too high. It would be a very good idea to get a compression check done, after you get that done come back and tell us what all you found out.
